I am looking for list of ships that left from Southhampton following the Titanic. An ancestor of mine told the story of standing on the dock and crying because the money he needed for passage on the Titanic hadn't arrived, so he couldn't go. Probably lucky for him since the majority of people drown. I can't find him in any of the genealogy seaches. I thought I could figure out how to search the passenger list if I could find which ships left within a month or so of the Titanic. If someone has further ideas I would appreciate your help. Thank You

Hi,

Was your ancestor Norwegian? Have you look on this site under "Departures 1825-1925"? You can look at the ships that came to the US in 1912.

Have you checked your ancestor's name on the Ellis Island site?
www.ellisisland.org If they came through Ellis Island, you may stand a good chance of finding them there.

If you have access to a library, most libraries carry a subscription to www.ancestry.com and you can search the ships from 1912 on there. Or you can subscribe yourself, for a fee.

Also, speaking from experience, family stories that have gotten passed down through the generations usually sound better when they are still a story. You may find out that this ancestor didn't even travel in 1912. You may, but just prepare yourself for an entirely different ending.

Do you have Naturalization papers for this person or have you checked the 1920 census to see if he listed the year that he immigrated? That would be helpful.

Good luck, Wanda

I have checked many websites, including those you mentioned. The problem with ellisisland is that you need the name of a ship to search the passenger list.
Yes he was Norwegian and I found him in the 1900 Norway census but that is the latest censusI can find available on the internet.
Thanks for your help.
