Hello!

I found one Karelius Hansen, married 09. april 1883 to Karen Larsen in Traill county, ND.

May he is the right person I'm looking for?

He was born 12. march 1862 in Vinger area, (Kongsvinger), Norway. Emigr. to USA 07. april 1882 and I found him in Naturalization record for Grand Forks, ND, 07. april 1883.

He had brothers/sisters in ND and SD.

Have you info about Karelius and Karen?

Liv, this must be the 6th topic you start about Karelius and his family now... Wouldn't it be better for everyone to keep the discussion in one single topic?

Karelius Hansen (b. 1862 Vinger/Kongsvinger) appears mentioned in the archives of the Norway-List on RootsWeb. November of 2005 a member there mentions Karelius as a brother to his great-grandfather.
You can search the archives of that mailing list and/or join the group and ask these questions about American locations. You have a chance that member may notice your inquiry and have some information.

Hi Liv,

Which of Karelius Hanson's siblings does Clark think he lived by? We might be able to find the cemetery that he was buried in and then we'd have some dates for you. The US Gen Web project is putting more cemetery transcriptions on-line all the time, so you might get lucky and be able to find him. You can search by county and then by cemetery.

Hello!

Clark belive Karelius lived in Northwood or Hatton, ND, and I have heard from a desc. (she is died and lived in Colorado) of Hans Hanson, Hatton, ND, (who was brother of Karelius) that a man lived alone near Hans, but it's not sure that he was Karelius. I think it's curious that Karelius not was at the census 1885 for Dakota territorium? I mean that S. and N. Dakota was the Dakota territorium?
May he moved to another state and come back to ND at later?
Is it any register about peoples who moved out/back from states?

Clark has taken contact with some he know in Traill co. ND, who will try to find about Karelius, but I will hear from you, too, if you are finding dates about him. I will be happy for that!

I will try to search the US Gen Web. Thank you, Wanda!

Hi Liv,
I've been searching for Karelius in both North Dakota and Minnesota. I can't find a death record for him and there are too many Karen Hanson's to try and figure out which one might be his wife, if he did marry her. I'll take a look at the census that Hans is in and see if we can find him that way.

Take care, Wanda

Hi Liv,

Do you know if he had a middle name or initial? If he changed his first name to Carl or Karl, it might make it easier to figure out which one is him, since there are a lot of Carl/Karl Hanson's.

Liv,

I don't know if you still have your trial subscription to Ancestry.com, but if you do, here's a link to a Carl Hanson in McCrea, Marshall County, Minnesota from the 1910 US Census. http://content.ancestry.com/iexec/?htx=View&r=an&dbid=7884&iid=MNT624_697-0235&fn=Carl&ln=Hanson&st=r&ssrc=&pid=12948636

Carl Hanson, Head, 48 years, Married 22 years, born Norway, immigrated in 1883, a farmer and it says that he was naturalized.
Mathea, wife, 48 years, married 22 years, born Norway, had 5 children and 4 survived, immigrated in 1884.
Laura M., daughter, 22 years, born in Minnesota.
Petra O., daughter, 20 years, born in Minnesota.
Hilda, daughtet, 16 years, born in Minnesota.
Melvin, son, 11 years, born in Minnesota.

I don't know if this is him or not, but it's the closest I've gotten and wanted you to take a look at it.

Wanda

Hello again and thank you Wanda for your helpfully looking!

Yesterday I looked at the churchbook for Karelius when he was born but he had no middle-name. May he changed his name to Carl or Karl, but they are many.
(I will look at the link you written).
I found at marriages for Hatton 1884 - 1984 a marriage for:

Tobias Tjornhoms and Karen Larson. It's no date but I belive it's around 1885 - 1890. It's standing 1. and 2. marriage, but it's not standing who was married 1. or 2. of them. May this Karen Larson was married to Karelius and was divorced?

I'm waiting for date from Traill, ND, too, from the woman Clark have taken contact with.

I'm open for all info about Karelius. It had been fun to found him!

Liv

PS: May you can came in to this link for the marriage for Tobias and Karen?

Liv,

I looked at the the Hatton Centennial and Karen Larson was Reverand Tobias Tjornhoms second wife.

Here is something else that I found today, when I was searching for Karen Hanson. It is a Karen Hanson, who is a widow, with her sons, Carl J. and Harry. The son named Carl made me stop and look at it.

1930 US Census - Aastad Township, Otter Tail County, Minnesota

Carl J., Head, 35 years, born Minnesota and he is a farmer, although they rent their home.
Karen , mother, 62 years, widow, born Norway, immigrated in 1881.
Harry, brother, 18 years, born Minnesota and he is a farm laborer.

I'm going to see if I can find them in the earlier censuses. Like I said before, Hanson is such a common name, that unless we find something that really identifies one of these Karelius/Carl Hanson, it's going to be tough to be sure that we have the correct one.

Take care, Wanda

I have some good news!
My son went to the UND library and found the Declaration papers for Karelius Hansen, confirming that he landed in New York in May 1882 and was naturalized on 07 April 1883.
ALSO, we found the marriage certificate of Karelius Hansen and Karen Larsen, married on 09 April 1883. This document indicated that they both lived in Garfield Township, Traill County, which is in the Hatton area. (Only the bottom half of the document was completed.)

Both documents have been sent to you direct, Liv.

Based on your find, Wanda, if this is the same Karen Larsen to marry Tobias, I am guessing that Karelius may have died. It would be helpful to learn when Tobias and his Karen were married.
And the search goes on.
