Hi!
I belive I have found Karen Larsen (Larsdatter)! She was from a farm with name Mengaaen in Austmarka. Mengaaen is ca 5 km from Tomteberget where Karelius was from.
Karen (30 year old and not marry), emigrated with the same ship (Rollo) and the same date as Karelius, and she emigrated to Grand Forks, ND. I found her at Digitalarkivet. ) I have trouble to put in links, yet.)
But she was born 14. Augusti 1851, 11 year older than Karelius, but maybe they were married at all.

Hi again!
If you will look at her dates, you must look at:
Digitalarkivet - Emigranter over Kristiania 1871 - 1930.
Her name: Karen Lars (hurtigsøk).
Her nr. at the left post: 46161.

Hi Liv, Some of the information we had posted, seems to have gotten lost in the server crash, but I found something or someone that could help you.
Gregory Holter does look-ups in the Red River Valley Genealogy Society Cemetery Books for Traill and Steele County, North Dakota. It sounds like he owns the book. Please send him your questions about Karelius Hanson and maybe we'll get lucky and he'll have him listed in a cemetery there.

Hello!
I shall write to Gregory Holter, thank you!
I saw that some of the post was gone, too.
But I have found something to day.
Karen Larsen Mengaaen (farm-name), Karelius Hansons wife had a brother: Carelius (Cornelius) Larson Meingvad (?) shall be Mengaaen/Meingaaen, b: 24. October 1840, who emigr. with the line ROSKA to Lansing in 1870 (no date), he was not married when he emigr. It was standing that Carelius was 36 year old in 1870 when he emigr.,but I belive he is the rigt person, he should be 30 year old when he emigr.
I belive he was married to Karelius Hansens sister Maria Hansdt., b: 19. january 1849, because she was married to a man with same name and that he was born 1840.
You found them for me in: Traill co, census 1880. In 1900: Roseville, Traill, ND. In 1910: Roseville, Traill, ND. In 1920: Portland, Traill, ND. In 1930: Portland, Traill, ND.
Maria and Carelius' kids was born in IOWA from 1873 - 1878. ------------------------"------------------------ ND " 1880 - 1890.
Karen Larsen had one brother to: Ole Larsen, b: 28. November 1842 who emigr. to New York 20. July 1869, the line Scandinavia. May he lived in ND, too?
Karen Larsen had 3 brothers and 2 sisters more, and I will try to found out about them, too.

Hi Liv,
So if I'm following you correctly, with all these Karen's and Karelius/Carelius's, you're saying that they married siblings, right? I had wondered about that, when I came across Carelius and Maria Larson, with daugher Karen Larson, when I was searching for the other Karen Larson/Hanson. I'll check the census to see if they might be living near by them in the later censuses.
Take care, Wanda |

Liv, There is someone on Ancestry.com that has a family tree that Karelius and Maria Larson are a part of. They list their daughter Karen Larson as having died on June 25, 1887 and they have her listed as being 13 years old at the time of her death.
They also have Karelius Larson's brother Martin listed as being born in 1836, but they don't have anything else about them in their tree. I'll keep looking. Wanda |

Liv,
Did Karen Larson Hanson have a sister named Elisa or something similar, that would of been younger than her? Let me know, since I found someone that could be Karen Hanson in the 1910 Census.

Liv,
The 1910 Us Census, Northwood Ward 1, Grand Forks, North Dakota lists a Karen Larson that I think could be her.
Larson, Karen, Head, 59 years old, widow, born Norway, immigrated in 1882, she does laundry work and she has no children. On the side of the Census it says Adams St., so I'm guessing that's where she lived. I think it might be apartments or small homes.

Hi again Wanda!
I belive you understood me right, but I can write it again:
Maria Hanson, Tomteberget, Kongsvinger, b: 19. January 1849, m. ca 1870 to Carelius Larson, Mengaaen, Kongsvinger, b: October 1840.
Maria's brother:
Karelius Hanson, Tomteberget, Kongsvinger, b: 12. March 1862, m. 9. April 1883 to Carelius Larsons sister: Karen Larsen Mengaaen, b: 14. Augusti 1851.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Karen Larsens parents and brothers/sisters:
Lars Larsen Mengaaen,Kongsvinger, b: 1805 - 13.05.1878, m. to Eli Mathisdt. Øieren, Karvainen, Brandval, Norway, b: ca 1810 - 26.11.1891.
Kids: 1: Lars Larsen, b: 10.12.1834-04.07.1900, m. 1870 to Kari Pedersdt. Sletmoen, Brandval. Lived in Norway.
2: Martin Larsen, b: 16.09.1835-21.04.1908, m. 1889 to Eli Pedersdt. Trosholmen, Kongsvinger, b: 30.04.1855-11.07.1934. Lived in Norway.
3: Maria Larsdt., b: 16.03.1838, m. 1889 to Johan Eriksen Nytorpet, Brandval, b: 06.08.1851. Belive they lived here, too.
4: Carelius Larsen, b: 24.10.1840, m. ca 1870 to Maria Hanson Tomteberget, Kongsvinger, b: 19.01.1849.
5: Ole Larsen, b: 28.11.1842, emigr. 20.07.1869 to New York with the line Scandinavia.
6: Eli Larsdt., b: 07.03.1845. May she emigr.
7: Johannes Larsen, b: 27.03.1849. May he emigr.
8: Karen Larsdt. (Larsen), b: 14.08.1851, emigr. to USA 07.04.1882, m. 09.03.1883 in Traill co, ND to Karelius Hansen Tomteberget, b: 12.03.1862. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You see, Karen had a sister Eli Larsdt. (Larsen), could be Elisa that you asked for, but Eli was 6 year older than Karen. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I belive you have found the right Karen Larson in Northwood, ND. And that they not had any kids, I mean that I should heard about them if they had any kids.
It's the right age and the right year about her emigration. Clark wrote about Northwood, too!
Thank you very much for the help so long! May some of us can find more, it must be the burials of Karen and Karelius.
Now, it's one sister again of the Hansons brothers and sisters, then I have info about them all!
I have written about her before, but I think it can be difficult to find her, but may she lived in Dakota some place, too!! I have a topic for her, too: Olia Hanson Tekstebakken or Tomteberget.
Thank you again for much help!

John, I hope Liv sees this post, but we worked on Karelius and his siblings genealogy 4 years ago. I haven't seen her on this site since. Try clicking on her name and you'll be able to send her an e-mail. I'm sure she'd love to see photos of the trunk.
Take care, Wanda |
