Does anyone have the Askvoll Bygdebok?
I'm looking for any information regarding the Fristad farm in the following:

Loftheim, Abraham. Askvoll Bygdebok. Askvoll: Askvoll Sogenemnd, 1963-1987.
Bd. I - Kristendomens innføring år 996. Kyrkjehusi, gravplassane, prestekallet, prestane og anna personnel m.m. 1306-1963.
Bd. IIA - Folket: Ættarbok frå det 16. århundrad til 1969
Bd. IIB - Folket: Ættarbok frå det 16. århundrad til 1969
Call No. DL596.A75 L63 1963 v.1,2

I think what I need is in Volume IIA or IIB.
I have a write up of the individual I am looking for at the following url:
http://history.fristad.net/fristad/fris_johannes.shtml

Thanks.

Good places to look for lookup volunteers -

Books We Own
Norway Lookup Volunteers
Norway Lister Lookups

The book(s) also appear to be in the holdings of at least 6 or 7 libraries in the US and are probably available through Inter-Library Loan through your local public library.

Thanks for the hint.
I contacted someone with the book and they found the individual.
Here's what I got back. Much of it I already knew from the Digitalarkivet

"The books says:
that Johannes was born 1859, married, policeofficer in Bergen, emigrated to USA in 1903. His parents was Ole Johannesson Kjeldstad (father Johs. Andersson) married 1859 to Pernille Berentsdatter Fristad born 1835."

Does anyone have any idea what other types of information is found in these publications? Or does it vary?

Perhaps you also should enter local parish Holmedal in Gaular municipality next to Askvoll in Sogn & Fjordane where farm Kjelstad is located.

Johannes was born in Askvoll April 2. 1859. Parents: Ole Johannesen and Pernille Berntsdr Fristad, #13

His parents married Jan. 3. 1859 in Askvoll.
Ole Johannesen Kjelstad age 25 and Pernille Berntsdr Fristad age 23, fathers: Johannes Andersen and Bernt Andersen #1

Johannes father Ole was born Oct. 3. 1833 in Gaular. Parents: Johannes Andersen and Gjertrud Sørensdr Kjelstad /Kjølstad #81

Ole Johannesen was "Hjemmedøbt", Christened at home on Kjelstad 3 days after he was born on Oct. 6. by Christian Gundersen Kjelstad, see next section after his godparents.

Johannes Andersen was farmer on Frøsland when he married Gjertrud Sørensdr Kjelstad June 1.1833 #14
His father was Anders Olsen, "Gaardmand" farmer on Frøsland "af (in) Haukedalen", and she (hard to understand).....paa(on) Kjelstad.

I think Haukedalen was a local parish in Førde main parish. If you enter the map you will find Haukedalen "Hawk valley" east of Holmedal in the central part of the county.
In 1865 there are 7 farms named Frøisland in Holsen in Haukedalen.
In 1801 is was one farm Frøsland in Holsen Førde parish.

Small correction: Johannes father Ole was born Oct. 3. 1833 in Gaular.
Pernille born Sept 18 1835, her parents Bernt Andersen and Anniken Clementsdatter see #114
Berent and Annike married in 1833 see #6
Berent was a 45 year old widower born at Kleppenæs and his father was Anders Bergersen.
Annike 32 years old was born at Loftheim and her father was Clemet Erichsen, see 225

Yes, the information in different books for different areas and by different authors can vary a great deal. They are usually limited to the information and documentation available in the area being discussed.

Hi,
I wasn´t able to find Anders Olsen´s father Ole Olsen Frøsland´s birth record, but it´s most likely his parents who married late January 1741, Førde main parish.
(but he got a sister Siri, christened at home on Frøsland Mai 20. 1745 by assistent Knud Frøsland)
Down page;
Cop. Ole Olsen Frøsland og Johanne Olsdr Femmeland, Click here

According to "Norske Gaardsnavne" by Ola Rygh is:

Frøsland mentioned 1667 as Frøssland and the name is coming from the Old Norse god name Frøyr.

Kjelstad mentioned 1603 as Kielstad and is coming from mans name Kjeld, Kield/Kiell

Fristad mentioned 1563 as Friistad and is coming from Old Norse name Fridrekr and Fridrekstadir mentioned first time in Norway 1060 in ths Saga about king Harald III Sigurdsson Hardråde, chapter 91.

A look up in Førde bygdebok, band 2 by Finn Borgen could bring up more information from Haukedalen.
