I know, it looks more German than Norwegian, but that's what the death records for a couple of her children said.
Anna was born (abt) Dec 1866, emigrated about 1877/1878. Her name on her death record showed Anna Victoria Michaelson. (I already have info on her husband, Jacob Matthias Mikkelsen). She died 17 Jan 1913 in Minnesota. I searched the passenger records on ancestry.com, but couldn't find anything.
Can anyone help? Thank you!! |

There are many Weltzin living in Norway today Tami.
The origin of Weltzin is a Danish-Norwegian noble family likely coming from Germany.

Really?! I thought it really sounded like a German name! I have no idea what part of Norway she came from. Her husband, Jacob, came from Vanylven in 1883. According to the census, she came around 1877/1878....think anyone can find something for me? |

Not much help, but the methode of elimination might be a start, first: the only Weltzin I know about was Eystein Weltzin, World Champion, relay race- orienteering for Norway 1978. He was from Holmestrand and Botne in Vestfold County.
ABC Adress info give 11 Weltzin in Eastern Norway in Akershus, Oslo and Buskerud and 22 in Western Norway in Hordaland, Rogaland and Mĝre & Romsdal

Well, I guess I can narrow it down a bit more....I've checked the Mĝre og Romsdal records for her birth and could not find it. |

The one born in 1868 is closer....and all the census that her middle initial is "R", altho, the death record said Anna Victoria. If this is her, I guess that's why I couldn't find her in the records for 1866!! |

Birth Record
Ok, Kċre....I'm thinking this is pretty close...#7, Anna Rebekka was born on 17 Dec 1867, which almost coincides with the 1900 census showing Anna R being born in Dec 1866.
The time she left is right too.
I thank you for giving me a clue!! |

I'm pretty sure the family you gave me that emigrated in 1878 above, is the correct one. I've found most of that family in the same area as the Anna I was looking for. |

I overlooked the most obvious Anna and Vanulven municipality is in Mĝre & Romsdal county, correction made abowe. Anne Rebekka Anthonsdr Weltzin was born on Trollhaug, and as you pointed out Dec. 17. 1857 "7
1865 cencus Vanulven the family lived on Trollehaug (Troll heap) father Anton both as a farmer and tenant farmer Click here
How Rebekka could be Victoria? Not the biggest divergence in name spelling I have seen.
All of children had "two" first names, perhaps you will recognize some of them in US records, see next link?
Here are the emigration record from Vanulven 1878 for shoemaker Anton Jacob Frantsen Weltzin and his family, right page #7-15

In the 1900 census, Anna had a middle initial of R, so maybe Victoria was another middle name? I did find just about all of them in the US records and found all their birth records on digitalarkivet, except for Anton's wife, Synneve Olsdatter. Couldn't find hers. I did find out that Anton's father was a premierlieutenant. Thank you for all your help! |
