In the Social Security death index, I found a Karen Johnsen b 24 May 1905, d 20 Feb 1995 in Sparta, Sussex, New Jersey. Sakarias Johnsen b 13 Jul 1901, d Nov 1985 in Cedar Grove, Essex, New Jersey....does the birthdate match the Sakarias Johnson who married your Karen?

I also found Karen A Johnsen in the Immigration as arriving in New York on 5 Oct 1937 with John Johnsen...she is said to have come from Lyngdal, so it sounds right.

In the New York Passenger List, there is a Sakarias Johnsen b abt 1902, arriving on 17 May 1931, being married and living in Chicago, Illinois. No mention of Karen, though.

Thank you! I do think the Karen born on may 24 1905 is the right one!! I made a mistake with the birthdate-- may 24 is the right one. I will have to find out when Sakarias was born though, but so far it looks promising.

This is the right persons- and I am so embarresed Idid a mistake; Karen was not married to Sakarias- but to John Johnsen and we did belive that they left Norway and Lyngdal in 1932- but 1937 seems to be the right year. Thank you,and I wonder if it is possible to find more information about their family in USA,children, so on-?

Ok, then, John Johnsen was 36 when Karen emigrated with him in 1937, so he was born about 1901...I can't find anything on him...and he was born in Norway too? If so, can you find his birthdate? It's really hard to find anything after the 1930 census, unless we have names....Johnsen/Johnson is such a common name here in the US.

I do have problems with John Johnsen, could be that he was born in 1903, february 7- but I am not sure. Maybe we just forget about John for a while an concentrate on Karen A Johnsen, born 24 may 1905. She arrives in New York on 5 oct 1937 with John Johnsen. If she was listed as Johnsen they must have been married before they left Norway, and this must the Karen living in Sparta,Sussex,New Jersey, died 20 feb 1995- that give us something to start with?

I wish I could say yes, but since they didn't arrive until 1937, and not having any children before they left norway, it's going to be really hard to find any information on living children, grand-children, etc. I'm sorry. I'll try and see if I can find any Johnsen's in the directories, but they also could have changed it to Johnson, and that will be difficult.

I'm so glad you found something! Good luck in your search and I hope you can connect with one of the family members!!

You did better than me! I keep forgetting to look at the family trees to see if anyone else is searching for the same people!
