Berthe Knutsdtr Odde b. 28 Jun 1830 Torpen, Norderland, Norway widow of Ole Haavelsen b. 11 Dec 1819 d.10 Jan 1864 Aasgaard, Stange, Hedemarken, Norway. They were married 12 Mar 1855. I believe she emg. to America 1873. She came with children:
Hermand Olson b. 14 Mar 1856 Loiten Hedemarken, Norway
Anne Olsdtr b. 11 Nov 1857Loiten Hedemarken, Norway
Christian Olson b. 18 Sep 1859Loiten Hedemarken, Norway
Karen Olsdtr b. 12 Dec 1861Loiten Hedemarken, Norway
Ole Andrew Olson b. 13 Jan 1864Loiten Hedemarken, Norway

Hermand (Herman) filed a letter of intention in Allamakee Co., Iowa on 23 Feb 1880. All siblings later changed their last name to Olswold. I know he later became a homesteader in Culberson, NE.

Are there any previous family records on this family and is it known the ship they came over on and the port of entry. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Olswold, I believe came from Aalsvold. I remember seeing that spelling at one time.

In 1864 Ole and his family moved from Løiten to Tangen in Stange, see on the right hand side at the bottom (and next page)
Ole Andreas was born here, not in Løiten, see #6.
Ole died at Aasgaard, se #2.
Oles parents married April 1 in 1817, see #8
The father "Hovel Olsen Aasen af Torpen under Land 35 Aar opholder sig paa gaarden Aasen" and the mother "Pigen Anne Olsdr 29 Aar hiemme hos sin fader paa Stor-Torp for å ??"
Oles birth record is #9 and the parents were living at the Øystad farm in Land, Oppland county.

I'm a little confused. When Ole Hovelsen married Berte in 1855, he was 35 years old which agrees with his being born in 1819. According to the 1801 census, Hovel was 64 years old (unless I'm reading this wrong). If you add 18 years onto Hovel's age, which would be Ole's birth date, that would make Hovel 82 years old. This is what I question. Correct my thinking if I'm wrong.

Ole born in 1819, his parents married in 1817, Hovel was then 35 years old, when the census in 1801 was taken Hovel should be about 15-16 years, and he might be on the farm Aasen since he was there when he married. In the 1801 census, look up Aasen as the farm and you will find Hovel 4407 as a servant, 16 yeras old.
If you search for Hovel Olsen in the 1801 census you get many of them - only one of them could be the one you are interested in.

Thank you Eibache for setting me straight. Hovel would have been about 34 years old when Ole was born. This makes more sense now. I was going in the wrong direction on the 1801 census.
