If you could see the original manifest, as Wanda said, it looks like Amund Pederman. The people that put it online obviously couldn't tell what it said. There were misspellings, of course, but that one, I don't know why they interpreted as Vedmin. It looks nothing like it!

Have you checked with the Hadeland Lag to see if they have information on where the family went?

What is the farm name from Hadeland? This could be difficult, because both Amund and Pernille could have died before the 1880 census. Do you know of any other family members that may have came over and settled near them?

Thanks Kċre,

I was surprised to see just how many Houg's and Haug's there are in the US Census.
I'll keep looking.

They must have changed their name when they landed in New York.

Here is Amund Pedersen's parents from the 1801 census. I'll throw this in, just in case somebody can get some fresh ideas.

Ooops, sorry, the image didn't copy. Go to 1801, for 0534 Gran, in Oppland. Search for Peder Abrahamsen, born 1780, on the Houg farm.

Maybe Amund had some brothers that stayed in Norway, and they wrote letters to each other.

Not easy to find in USA (not my home ground). Perhaps another possibility:

Amund´s mother, Anne Torgimsdatter was born on Jorstad.
Perhaps they changed last name to Jorstad in USA?

I had a similar thought, so I've been looking for Ingebretson's.

I haven't seen anything for them under "Jorstad", sorry to say.

Found the engagement record for Peter Abrahamsen and Anne Torgrimsdtr.
http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=9344&idx_id=9344&uid=ny&idx_side=-256

Per Amund's birth record his middle initial is "B". I checked Ancestry for "Brede" and got nothing.

Hello eveyone...

In the Ancestry records for theyr arrival to New York there was registered another name on Amund, the name was Ammerd Vedmin.
Maybe a thought from me.

Hi Mette,

I think they just couldn't read the name correctly. The index for those records is taken from the original ship's list and we could read what it was. It looked like Amund Peterman. I could easily see them writing Peterman, instead of Peterson. I did search under Peterman, as I'm sure others did and most Peterman's come from Germany.

As for Brede, I did find some, but none of them were your Brede Amundson. He may have changed his first name or used an initial.
I'll keep looking.
Take care, Wanda

Hello Lislcat...

I maybe think that Brede and Peder took Pederson to the last name...
