I am searching for information on Eisik Pelsy. He is listed on the passenger list of the City of Chicago which left Liverpool and Queenstown and arrived in New York on 08/22/1891. His origin is listed as from Poland, born 1871 and arrived in New York at age 20. This is the only information I can fined on Eisik Pelsy. I have been on many many geneology sites and message boards and can find nothing about him. Can anyone help. Thank you.

Hi Rhonda,

I talked with a person recently doing Polish genealogical research and she said that Chicago is the place to go for Polish research. Here is the link to the Polish Genealogical Society of America. http://www.pgsa.org/

I'd also check on the message boards and do inquiries on Rootsweb. http://www.rootsweb.com/~polwgw/polandgen.html

I looked for him in the census and he definitely used a different name after arriving in the US. If I were you, I'd start with what you know and get all the info on him that you can while he was in the states like census info, death records, marriage records, cemetery info, obituaries, etc... Once you have that info, it will make it much easier to do the research in Polish records.

Also, the Polish Museum of America in Chicago has a lot of interesting research information. There site is being worked on, but I'd definitely check that out. http://pma.prcua.org/archivesen.html

Good luck to you!
Wanda
