How do i go about finding information about my gggg Grandparents. Ole Nilsen was born in Norway in about 1759, (i don't think his year of birth is correct but this is the year given in our family history book), he married Christine Jacobsdr on 13 March 1824, in Trogstad Norway, and we think he died in 1845. Christine was born in 1792 in possibly Langseter, Norway. Are there any census' before 1824 (i would like to find Ole's parents, and where he came from). Also i can't find any records to confirm that he died in 1845, or when Christine died.
What years did they do a census in Norway, could someone please give me the web address to find these census'.
I hope someone will be able to help me Thanks Sarah

Trøgstad is a district in Østfold, Norway.
The 1801 Norwegian census has been made into a searchable database and is available on the Digitalarkivet website.
The following article on how to use the databases of the Digitalarkivet includes the URL to the site. http://www.rootsweb.com/~norway/DigitalArchives.html
Many scanned church parish records are also available on the Digitalarkivet website including the 1824 marriage record of Ole and Christine. The detail of that record would make me think that "Hagebroe" and "Langsæter" are probably farm names from that area. Marriage #8 on page
How-to on reading Norwegian church records is included in the following collection . Ancestors from Norway Articles |

Ole Nilesen seems to be born about 1783, he was 41 years when he married Christine Jacobsdatter Langseter age 32 March 13.1824 #8
Plus-minus a year or two, sometimes more is not uncommon searching in the church records online.
Ole Nilesens farmname (Hagetroe?) is not listed in the 1801 census for Trøgstad, could be a local name for a cotters place under another farm or just spelled different..
Make a try for yourself searching Ole Nielsen, son of Niels/Nils (unknown lastname), its a great experince to find the person you are looking for.
Good luck

From the marriage record of Ole and Christine you probably have noticed that he was a widower. Most likely your Ole married Marte Christophersdatter Oct 5 1809, see right page here. Marthe Christophersdatter from Hagebroe died in 1821, see #24 |
