I found a publication dated 19 May 1892 on the internet which mentions Italian engineer Gennaro Azzeroni who had invented a type of ship´s steering mechanism, possibly for ss Kristiania (or in a place called Kristiania?) It is written in old Norwegian (so all I know is thanks to a Swedish friend). Gennaro married one of my Scots ancestors and they emigrated to Canada in the early 1900's. Any suggestions as to how I might find out more about him and his work would be greatly appreciated. |

Hi, the document you refer to is from the commission of patents in Kristiania, Norway. The city Kristiania was renamed to Oslo in 1925.
Engineer Gennaro Azzeroni from Southwark, Surrey, England has come up with some improvements related to the steering gear on ships, about how to lock the helm in a fixed position.

I found him in the England and Wales marriage index. The women listed as having their marriage registered at the same time are Florence Annie Ford, Isabella Miller Hogg, Isa Miller Hogg (probably the same person). The marriage was registered in Cardiff in January - March of 1887. The county is Glamorgan, Monmouthshire.

Thank you both for your replies. I already have his marriage and family birth details, but your help is appreciated. I´ll give that English language website a try. |

No luck with those two links, unfortunately. Seem to link only to the original Norwegian article or a one-line reference to G Azzeroni in a US publication. Thanks again anyway.... |
