I am looking for information on Ole Martin Egeland and Julia Ellen Knutson Egeland. Both were born in Stavanger, Norway. Ole Martin Egeland was born November 10, 1845 and Julia Knutson Egeland was born July 22, 1857. Both are also buried in the Groff Cemetery in Mill Grove, Missouri. I have not been able to find them on passenger list or make a connection to a ship or even a port.

Someone has submitted information about Ole and Julia to the LDS International Genealogical Index (website - familysearch.org). They indicate that Ole and Julia married in La Salle Co. Illinois in 1876. Therefore we can't assume that they emigrated together.

Julia appears in the 1910 and 1920 US census with two or more different children, but she lists in the 1910 census that she has 8 living children. The listed birthplaces of the children on the census enumerations indicate that the family moved about the US quite a bit.

If they were born in or near Stavanger then I'd assume the most likely port of departure would have been Stavanger. The emigration records for that port are NOT complete. The original records burned and the recreated database definitely does not include all that actually left from that port.

The 1900 US census shows Ole M. Egeland in Mercer Co. MIssouri and lists that he was born in Sweden. (Which explains why searching for Norway born persons only wasn't finding that record!)

Thank you. The little bit of information that I have been able to find is through ancestry.com and the LDS website. The burning of the records must explain why I cannot locate emigration records. On one census it is listed that Martin Egeland arrived in 1867 - but I cannot prove this. I have found very little information on Julia Ellen Knutson Egeland other than what the forementioned websites have to offer. The census records are vague or not there for the Knutson family. It appears that I have hit a brick wall.

A big THANK YOU to all responses. This is wonderful information and the information that I have not been able to find. I have been working on this branch of the family for over a year and could not learn more than what I found in the Mercer County, Missouri information. Ole Martin Egeland was my great-great-grandfather. I am still very much stumped on the Knutson family.
