I 've been traying to find relewants after my father`s uncle, who emigreat to USA-propably Muskegon, Michigan in year 1882. I found information that he left Trondheim 20. april -82 with s/s "Tasso" to Hull. From Glaskow with s/s "Cicassian" and arrived New York 9. may -82 (10.may?)
My father`s uncle`s name in Norway was Lars Jensen Værkland
He was born in Lade,Strinda 17.oktober 1864, and was baptised 6.november -64. If my information is correct, he got married in US and got two children named Bertha and Jan?
I would be verry interested in hearing from sombody that can giv me information regarding Lars J. Værkland and his closest family in USA. I sincerly look forward to hearing from som.

On the Circassia (arrived 11 May 1882)manifest, there is a Lars J.Varklandal listed, age 18, a laborer. Some overlapping writing covers his last name, which makes it hard to read.

If others want to check, he is on page page 2, Last Norwegian near the bottom.

Hi Mr. Hanson!
Thank you so much for your help so far,
I have got another two questions in my search for Lars J. Værkland`s ancestors. Where can I find the passenger list from s/s Circassia? And how & where can I confirm that it was actyally in Muskegon, Michigan Lars settled and not somewhere else?
Thanks in advance!

Best regards Gunnar

Gunnar,

Ancestry.com has the SS Circassia manifest listings. Unfortunately, I presently have a problem with my computer and Ancestry.com. They will not let me save their image records to my computer, so I could send a copy to you.

Ancestry.com is a subscription based web site, which means it costs money to use their site. If you have a friend who is a member of Ancestry.com, they could help you get a copy. Many of our local library's offer Ancestry.com free to the public.

I have searched many of the census records for Lars J Varkland, and have been unable to make a connection. The Varkland name would not be an easy name for census people to write down, so if Lars is in our censuses, it could be under another surname.
