My great great great grandfather Hans Swinson Fie and his fathers are reported to have passed examination and earned commission as ship's captain.

I would think there would be records for that. Does anyone have suggestions where I might look?

I read the article and found it very interesting. However, I did not see where to access the lists.

My great grandfather was Sigvart S. Samuelson, born in 1861, who apparently was a ship's captain from Drobak. My great grandmother Karen Mathea Samuelson emigrated on 6 September 1894 on the Thingvalla from Christiania and arrived at Ellis Island on 21 September. Traveling with her were four children, the oldest being my grandmother Samuellina Amanda. My mother transcribed stores that Karen told about Sigvart being a ship's captain and traveling to Australia and China. I can find no record of Sigvart actually arriving in America, but he died of typhoid fever on 18 July 1899 in Rowley, Massachusetts.

Can someone tell me how to access the lists. Thanks.
