Wow! Is "Frantsvies" a boy or a girl? This name has to be somewhat rare.

Kelly,
There could be more siblings to Arnt, but the birth records from 1807 to 1813 are not available on line.

They weren't available for me, but Jan Peter found them, see below.

Strange name, I agree, but it was not uncommon in Meldal around 1800, see 1801 census for Sør-Trøndelag, Melbu and search for given name starts with Fran. from this I would say Frantsviis could be better - it was a female name. Often a mans name was the origin, here Frants - Frantsviis, other examples Christen - Christiane, Ole - Oleane, Jørgen - Jørgine etc. The record translated: baptized Frantsviis The father Torger Fredriksen and the mother Ingebor Olsdatter. The witnesses John Pedersen Aas and Ole Olsen Lundeng and Marit Gundersdatter Wold and Marit Fredriksdatter Haarstad and Ann Halvengsdatter Haarstad. |

Whit Sunday was 17th of May in 1807, so the christening date for Frantsvis should be June 28th.
Frantzisse (Frandsvis) Klestsdatter Jachobi was an immigrant to the nearby community Kvikne ca 1635 with her husband Frants Jensen, so the name could come from that family. They came from Thuringia in Germany ("Thüringen"), and Frants was a charcoal-burner and was sent to the area to improve the conditions in the Kvikne coppermines.
Grete Ravlo born 1920 married to Lorentz Kvål, Steinkjer has a cabin in Nerskogen, and they have a bed there which used to belong to Gretes ggg-grandmother, Frantsvis Torgersdr. Hårstad 1807-1892.
The bed was moved from Nørgard Hårstad in Rennebu to Hofstad in Verdal in 1831, when Frantsvis and her husband Jon Andersen Risan (1800-1847) bought the Hofstad farm in Verdal.
Frantsvis Torgersdr Hårstad married Jon Andersen Risan on 09-JUN-1829 Children: Anders Jonsen Hofstad Salberg, born 08-Feb-1828, dead 04-Apr-1901 Torger Jonsen Hofstad, born 18-May-1830
As a widow Frantsvis had the Øvre Hofstad farm for 7 years, until she married Ellev Andersen from the Sør-Tiller farm in 1853. She handed the farm over to her son Torger Jonsen the following year. Fransvis died on Sør-Tiller in 1892.

I really want to thank all of you for helping me.Now I have to get this all put together. I am amazed at what you are finding. I could have never done it by myself. I started to look at the dictionary to figure out words and see if I can find the original farm. I'm still working on that and to see where they moved around. Thanks |

The real joy of this hobby is being able to do it yourself. You can! There are a number of excellent materials available online for your study and the number of Norwegian resources available online for research increases almost daily. Study, practice, enjoy!
Ancestors From Norway articles Tips on Using Digitalarkivet Norwegian census abbreviations Norwegian censuses on NHDC website (instructions included)
Links and more links
The detail available in the parish church records is a marvelous gift from Norway. The Digitalarkivet web site has been adding scanned images of the original Norwegian parish church records for anyone with Internet access since November 2005.
The Digitalarkivet web site - http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/WebFront.exe?slag=vis&tekst=meldingar An English option is available by clicking on that word from either the left hand column or the blue link bar along the bottom of the homepage. The scanned images are available from the homepage link "Skanna kyrkjebøker" [Norwegian version]/"Digitised parish records" [English version] which is listed along the left hand column and from the blue banner of links along the top section of the homepage. After you've clicked on that link and a new main page has presented on the screen be sure and read the instructions that are available from the Digitalarkivet for navigating the scanned records. The instructions are available in Bokmål (official Norwegian), Nyorsk (Norwegian), Davvisámegiella (Saami), and English. Recommended basic reading are the "Startsiden" [Norwegian version]/"Main page" [English version], "Brukerveiledning" [Norwegian version]/"User's guide" [English version] and "Om tjenesten" [Norwegian version]/"About this service" [English version].
Good information about translating the formats of Norwegian parish church records during various time periods, many of the basic terms used and understanding how to use the information should be studied at this web site - http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~norway/na20.html

About Harstad, Arn Eriksen f Arn ERiksen Hårstad. Född omkring 1590. [1] Död omkring 1650. [1] Bruker. Bruker. Född omkring 1590. [1] Död omkring 1650. [1] Hårstad, Nørrigard blev delt omlag 1600, antagelig først delt i to like store deler, Nørrigard og Søstuggu. Deretter blev Utstuggu skilt ut fra Søstuggu. Nørrigard fikk derfor like stor skyld som Søstuggu og Utstuggu tilsammen. I 1645 bodde det 6 mennesker på over 12 år på garden, deriblant Fredrik og kona hans. I 1635 er Fredrik med å skrive under en avtale om førsel vedr Innset/Kvikne. |

f Arn ERiksen Hårstad. Born about 1590. [1] Dead about 1650. [1] User. User. Born about 1590. [1] Dead about 1650. [1] Hårstad, Nørrigard (the northern farm) was split about 1600, probably first in two equal parts, Nørrigard (the northern farm) and Søstuggu (the southern cottage). Then Utstuggu (the outer cottage) was parted from Søstuggu. Nørrigard therefore got an equal dept as Søstuggu and Utstuggu together. In 1645 6 people were living on the farm, among others Fredrik and his wife. In 1635 Fredrik takes part as a signee of an agreement concerning førsel (I don't know what this is supposed to be) concerning Innset/Kvikne. |
