I am helping a friend who has a real puzzle in her family history. This is the information she gave me - can anyone help to decipher it? I think the farm Litlaland farm must be in Rogaland as she said it was in the Stavanger area. "About the prince of Denmark--his name MAY have been Fredrik Assverius (Axsverius) de la Roche. He and a norwegian girl, (maybe Marta somebody--who must have been of the Litlaland line) had a baby, Fredrik. The Prince could not marry her, a commoner, but he "gave her a farm" (could that transaction be traced somehow? That may have been in the late 1700's.) This son, Fredrik, married Marta (there's that name again--is the first "Marta" name wront?) Ericksdatter Reke(Rege?). She died in 1878. Their daughter Ingeborg Fredreksdtr Rege (Raegje) married Johannes Olason Litlaland (1806-1870). This Johannes Olson "took over" the Litlaland farm. And this Johannes Olson would be Gustave Leland's grandfather who settled on a farm near Bricelyn, Minnesota. Would it be possible to find out if this same Johannes Olson married twice, marrying the sister of his first wife who died?"
This is very confusing and I don't know if I have enough information for you. I have done some research but haven't been able to find even the Litlaland farm. Thanks for any help or suggestions you can give me!

This should be Ingeborg Fredriksdatters parents in 1801 on Rægje in this exiting familytree.
The church book for Sola are not online.
A short version ( English resume, coats of Arms etc. on top page).
Ingeborg Fredriksdatter (almost bottom in the family tree) was born August 16. 1801 on Rægje in Sola parish and married to Johannes Olsen Litlaland born Sept. 7.1806.
Her father was Fredrik Fredriksen (1801 census) bap. Nov 15. 1772, born to Lieutenant colonel in Vesterlenske Regiment Fredrik Ahasverussen dit la Roche bap. in Stavenger Oct. 29. 1697, buried Feb.1. 1772 and Marta Eriksdatter from Klingshei in Sola, bap. April 3. 1698, buried July 16. 1768. they married Nov. 17. 1726.
Fredrik was a fosterson of Ommund Ommundsen and Dorthe Johnsdatter Revheim in Madla parish.
Several members from this family emigrated to USA.

Kåre, Thank you for your information. I have a question concerning. Fredrik. You mention that he was a fosterson of Ommund Ommundsen and Dorthe Johnsdatter Revheim in Madla. He was the son to Lieutenant Colinel in Vesterleske Regiment Fredrik Ahasverussen dit la Roche. What does "dit" mean? Do the records show who was the birth mother of Fredrik? Could Lieutenant Colinel Fredrik Ahasverussen been of Danish descent? It does make me wonder why he was a fosterson. Thank you again for your help. My friend will be thrilled! |

Ingeborgs baptismal record (if that could be of interest), see second from top, right hand page here and Johanes, see top record left hand page here Ingeborgs father Frederic Fredericsen Klingshej was baptized Nov 15, see record #4 from top on right hand page here it says parents were Frederic and Brithe Mari Jonsdatter. At the bottom of left hand page here is Friderich Friderichsen, Ingeborgs grandfather, baptized Nov 21.

Fredrik, The Lieuteneant colonel mentioned abowe was a fosterson to Ommund Ommundsen and Dorthe Jonsdatter Revheim.
dit is a french word: dit la/de la?. la Roche is French. Crequi dit la Roche is a French noble family going back to Sire Arnold Crequi from the town Pas-de-Calais in Northern France 857.
Fredrik Ahasverussen was born out of wedloc to Ahasverus de Crequi dit la Roche born 1671 in Stavanger and Haldri Bjørnsdatter buried August 23. 1741 in Stavanger Dome. Haldri Bjørnsdatter confessed in Kvistsøy church June 20. 1700.
Ahasverus and his family settled dow in Copehagen, Denmark about 1707.
There are French, English and Norwegian links and resumes in this family tree, will take quite some time to sort out.
Great work Einar, it conferm the family tree, nothing compare to the church records. Would it be possible to go further back?

Ahasverus de Crequi dit la Roche (junior) was of french nobility. The noble family Crequi can be traced back to 857 and a Sire Arnould de Crequi from the village Crequy in Pas-de-Calais in Nothern France. His father Ahasverus de Crequi dit la Roche (senior) was actually from den Haag in Holland (Netherland), but came to Trøndelag, Norway in 1657, where he took part in the war between Denmark-Norway and Sweden. Ahasverus de Crequi dit la Roche (junior) was first married to Anne Knudsdatter Urne who had roots back to Denmark and danish nobility. Ahasverus (junior) had a child out of wedlock with Haldri Bjørnsdatter. The child was Fredrik who grew up at Revheim på Madla with the foster parents. |

Most all of the parish records which include Sola can be found in the books labelled for Håland district in Rogaland. It was also not unknown for some people to go to one of the churches in Stavanger for major events.
Carol Dahl may enjoy finding records for herself - or at least being able to verify information given by others.
The Digitalarkivet web site has been adding scanned images of the original Norwegian parish church records for anyone with Internet access since November 2005.
The Digitalarkivet web site - http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/WebFront.exe?slag=vis&tekst=meldingar An English option is available by clicking on that word from either the left hand column or the blue link bar along the bottom of the homepage. The scanned images are available from the homepage link "Skanna kyrkjebøker" [Norwegian version]/"Digitised parish records" [English version] which is listed along the left hand column and from the blue banner of links along the top section of the homepage. After you've clicked on that link and a new main page has presented on the screen be sure and read the instructions that are available from the Digitalarkivet for navigating the scanned records. The instructions are available in Bokmål (official Norwegian), Nyorsk (Norwegian), Davvisámegiella (Saami), and English. Recommended basic reading are the "Startsiden" [Norwegian version]/"Main page" [English version], "Brukerveiledning" [Norwegian version]/"User's guide" [English version] and "Om tjenesten" [Norwegian version]/"About this service" [English version].
Good information about translating the formats of Norwegian parish church records during various time periods, many of the basic terms used and understanding how to use the information should be studied at this web site - http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~norway/na20.html

Thanks so much everyone!! I'll take time to do more research. I have used the Digitalarkivet wed site often when doing genealogy on my family. I just couldn't find the right place to start on this family. This is quite an interesting family tree. Again, my friend will be thrilled!!! |
