Just started tracing my Dad's maternal side, and just discovered Norwegian ancestry, so I'm clueless about culture and language.
I've found them on board the brig Favoriten out of Stavenger...
and have a great deal about them after that, Iowa to Texas (they changed their name to Brown, so wasn't easy) but still no naturalization info, or info about them from Norway.

Any advice for a newbie appreciated, I am trying to learn the system and find their parish, church..etc.

All the children are christened in Stavanger Domkirke (The Stavanger Cathedral / The Stavanger Dome).
Here is the original record for two of the boys:

Peter Olai Brun Ommundsen
Source information: Rogaland county, Domkirken in Stavanger, Parish register (official) nr. A 11 (1832-1856), Birth and baptism records 1842
Peter Brown participated in the Civil War.
His middle name Brun means Brown...
See also this link at RootsWeb's WorldConnect Project; Eggleston-Ford Connections.

Carl Johan Andreas Brun Ommundsen
Source information: Rogaland county, Domkirken in Stavanger, Parish register (official) nr. A 11 (1832-1856), Birth and baptism records 1843

So many names and so many spellings! heh.. I was wondering where the Brun came from, just seems to pop up as middle names for a couple of the children.. that would make sense to be Brown then. They just seemed to dropped the rest, but at different times.
