I'm looking for Halvor Evenson Rustad born 1862 - spouse Ann Olsen. They came over from Norway before Ellis Island. Anyone know what ship he came over on?

Hi Tiny

I found a Halvor Rustad who left Norway with his wife Anne Rustad May 24 1888. They were both 25 years old and must be born abouth 1862/63. He was a joiner's mate (joiner's apprentice) and their final destination was Crokston. They came from Aasnæs. The ship they left Norway with was Geyser and port of departure was Kristiania ( = Oslo). The ship arrived in New York June 8 1888.
Is this the people you are looking for?

On Norway-Heritage the ship's name is written S/S Geiser and on her way back to Norway after her next journey she collided with S/S Thingvalla Aug. 14. 1888 and sank. 105 peoples lost their lives.

Hi Vivi,
Thanks for the information. Halvor & Anne Rustad were the parents of Olaf M. Rustad (my husband's father). I know that Halvor's father was Even and his mother was Martha, but I have no other information on them. Perhaps you can help

What year(s) did Halvor list for immigration to the US in the federal censuses? That information was recorded in the 1900, 1910, 1920 - possiblyin the 1930 too.

From the 1865 census listing, Ole Eriksen is the father of Martea Olsdatter. This could be the Ole Eriksen in the 1801 census. His father is Erik Tollefsen, and his mother is Ingebor Hansdtr.
#1337

Ole Eriksen's birth record from Trysil Parish, looks like 13 July 1787, page 33, #10

Hi Tiny

Here is Halvor's Norwegian family from the 1900-census:

http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=1&filnamn=f00425&gardpostnr=534&merk=534#ovre

They have used the farm name Rusten as their surname. A quick surch in the phone directory shows several people with surname Rusten today - including Arne Rusten which seems to be a name in this family (and in many others)

Here is a link to the emigration list I found them in:

http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=25&filnamn=emikra1&gardpostnr=109350&merk=109350#ovre

If there are words you don't understand just ask and I'll translate.

Hi Everyone,
The responses to my query have been very helpful. I will need to search further to see if all the names come together. Halvor Eveson Rustad, Rusten name change to Rustad (when?)

Rustad vs: Rusten. Name change is up to the person writing down what he thinks he hears, or what he thinks he heard. So it is very hard to put a date on this.

Since my last request, which all of you were helpful with, I am now stuck on Erik Tollefsen who married Ingebor Hansdtr. Any information available would be greatly appreciated.
