I am looking for any information on Halvor N. Wold. He naturalized in Pierce County, ND (Rugby, ND area)on May 16, 1904. Does anyone know when he came to America from Norway, or from where in Norway? I am trying to find out as much as I can about Halvor N. Wold as he lived with Mike Anderson who I think was my grandfather (Melkor Anderson Oien/Oyen who came from the Rendalen region of Norway in Dec 1891). If I find out more about Halvor N. Wold, it may lead me to further information on my grandfather. Thanks

Have you been able to check the US Censuses from 1900 to 1930?
The 1900 Census, lists a Halvor Wold, in Pierce County, age 35, born Nov 1864, Immigrated 1888. He has a boarder, named Mike Anderson, age 27, born Sept. 1872, immigrated 18881892.

The 1910 census lists Halvor N. Wold, age 42, immigrated 1890.

The 1920 Census, for Williams county, lists Halvor Wold, age 53, born 1867, immigrated 1888. And a brother Gunder Wold, age 46, born 1874, immigrated 1903.

The 1930 census, for Williams County, lists Halvor age 65, born 1865, and Gunder age 56. The census page wouldn't open for me.

sandyoc,

You need to obtain a birth date for Melkor. An obituary would usually have a lot of information.

This could be your Melker Anderson. There is a Melkior Anders. Øien, born 28 Sep 1872, leaving Kristiania 20 July 1910. His residence is America, destination is Canada, leaving on the SS Eskimo. Traveling with him is Berntine(probably his wife) born 7 April 1887, and their son, Bjarne, born 5 May 1908.

If these are your relatives, they probably moved to Canada.

I'll keep going, hoping this is the right person.
A Melkior A. Øien age 19, from Rendalen is going to New York from Kristiania on the SS Montebello 4 December 1910.

I'm confused. Is Halvor N. Wold the person you think is your grandfather?
