Renee - You do NOT have to be able to read Norwegian to do your own research in the the church records. For a marriage you are looking for NAMES and if the right pair is found then there will be very very few other words that need to be translated.
You'll find full translations of the page formats you will find in the parish records for the recording of marriages during various time periods at the following webpage. (the column headings) A little study and a few notes for your use and you should be ready to start your research.
Norwegian Kirkebĝker - parish registers
If a few other Norwegian words are found in the record when it is found - then use the two handy lists (small dictionaries) that you'll find under "Links" on the page near the upper right of this window. |

I saw that Einar, more names encrease the possibilty that someone with the key enter this topic.
In his link Mina told she was 17 when she married Axel, information she gave in a US census, that should be about 1884 and not 1888.
Try the records from Oslo as Hopkins recommend Renee, most of them can be exluded, Axel/Aksel will be mentioned first.

You dont seem confused to me at all Renee, to make lookups in Oslo parish registers demands time and patience and has made cunfusion and "annoy" to most genealogists .
Her is Akershus county with Ullensaker municipality and Oslo town in south. Both the christening and confirmation to Mina and Ragna were taken place in Hovin church.
The family returned to Galgeberg and Vċlerenga in Oslo according the former topics in DIS-Norge.
A map of Galgeberg about 1900 In the Middle age Galgeberg or Martestokker was the place where "criminals" were hanged in the gallows.
In the 1891 census for Oslo Mina and Axel were members of Paulus congregation

Since no one seems to have found the wedding record for Mina and Axel, there are some question on that online, they are not in the LDS records either.
I wonder, if Mina was only 17, did they married civil? The records for civil weddings in Christiania from 1863-1892 are kept in the archives as "notarielprotokoller alminnelig rekke" at Statsarkivet Oslo

In a former posing it was assumed that the reason for the return to Oslo for this family could be because one of the parents died, most likley the mother Marthe.
It looks like that was wrong, take a better look in the christening record for Mina and Axels daughter #57 Sigrid Hulda Mathilde 1890, Aker church and the godparents:
Enke (widow) Marthe Olsen, Pige (Maid) Ragna Mathilde Olsen (Minas sister). The following are Maid Hulda Olsen (family member?), sheet-metal worker Gustav Jĝrgensen and Smith Johan Larsen.
Ragna born April 25. was christened Oct. 1. 1865 in Ullensaker as Ragna Mathilde.
About the records for civil weddings for Oslo, I forgot to tell you they are not online, you has to send and inquiry to Statsarkivet Oslo for "Borgerlige vielser" between 1883-1890 in the files for "notarielprotokoller alminnenelig rekke" and they hopefully will send it to you.

Hi Kare, This is most confusing as Christian Olsen, husband went to America with his oldest daughter in 1870. I had always thought Marthe had died as he went alone with the girl. The younger children grew up in foster care so I wonder where their mother was them? This family is so hard to figure out. Thank you for all of your help. Renee |

It is some confusing, could the Godmother, widow Marhte be a namesake to the mother Marthe in the 1890 christening? I assumed it was the mother when I saw the name, I can be wrong, but since she also is mentioned first I think she is the mother (still miss the final evidence). But it looks like "tampen brenner" we are getting near the mark Renee.
Correct, of course you are, Christian emigrated in 1870 with his daughter Olava Emilie, dest. La Crosse on Mai 24. on ship Scotia. His occupation and place of living was the same as in the 1865 census, "Dahls Trĉolje/Trĉslip. fabr."
