I live in USA. I have found a church genealogy chart that lists my great great grandmother's maiden name as Rudriqsen. She would have been born in Norway, however, I can't find any records with this name, or even a similar name. People I have spoken to say that this name doesn't sound norwegian. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance :)

Jennifer

I've searched for that last name too and can't find it anywhere. Maybe we could have her information...ie date of birth, anything you have on her. Maybe we can work it from there and figure something out!

The other info I have for her is.. First Name - Josephine Birth - February 9, 1850 Birth Place - Førde Søndfjord, Norway. I am not completely sure about the accuracy of this information because it comes from a headstone that wasn't put on the grave until some 30 years after her death. Her husbands stone lists his birthplace as Flora, Norway, which as I have found out wasn't created until nearly 60 years after his death. I am not sure if they were married in Norway. but his name is Jens Andreassen, Birth Date - May 12, 1849, and as I said, Birth Place - Flora, Norway.

Thanks
Jennifer

Josephines birth record is not the right one, parents are right though.
Ludvig Zachariasen and Olivia Olsdatter had Josephine Ingeborg Febr 9 1850, see #42
Ludvig Zachariasen and Olivia Olsdatter were married Oct 29 1843, see #40

Thank you Einar! I didn't think it was the Josephine, with the difference in birth year! I should quit trying to read records while being tired...at least I had the correct parents

Thank you both so much for your help! :) I don't know a bit of norwegian, so it takes me a little while to get everything sorted out. I have been to this website before, but only used the Digitalarkivet with census records. Mostly I click buttons and use the back option a lot. lol I have found most of my great great grandfather's records though :) Can you tell me if there are any records online for Drøbak or Christiania before 1865, and which links to click to get to them? I have tried using the parish register records, but the language barrier really gets me stuck.

Again thank you guys so much for your help!!

Oh my, yes there are othere other records available.

The Digitalarkivet web site has been adding scanned images of the original Norwegian parish church records for anyone with Internet access since November 2005.

The Digitalarkivet web site - http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/WebFront.exe?slag=vis&tekst=meldingar
An English option is available by clicking on that word from either the left hand column or the blue link bar along the bottom of the homepage.
The scanned images are available from the homepage link "Skanna kyrkjebøker" [Norwegian version]/"Digitised parish records" [English version] which is listed along the left hand column and from the blue banner of links along the top section of the homepage.
After you've clicked on that link and a new main page has presented on the screen be sure and read the instructions that are available from the Digitalarkivet for navigating the scanned records. The instructions are available in Bokmål (official Norwegian), Nyorsk (Norwegian), Davvisámegiella (Saami), and English.
Recommended basic reading are the "Startsiden" [Norwegian version]/"Main page" [English version], "Brukerveiledning" [Norwegian version]/"User's guide" [English version] and "Om tjenesten" [Norwegian version]/"About this service" [English version].

Good information about translating the formats of Norwegian parish church records during various time periods, many of the basic terms used and understanding how to use the information should be studied at this web site -
http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~norway/na20.html

Also check the online LDS Family History Library catalog for available of other records of your chosen Norwegian research area. Those would probably be available on micoriflm and/or microfiche at your local LDS Family History Center.
