Hi! My great--grandparents came to the US in 1901 aboard the SS Norge from Christiania, Norway. I have copies of their Application for A Certificate of Arrival & Preliminary Form for Petition for Naturalization. These papers are my source of information. My great-grandfather;s name was Christian Johannesen born on 4/6/1880 in Sheberg, Norway. His mother's name was Olina Johannesen. No father's name listed. His last residence in Norway was Sarpsborg. He married Josephine Marie Larsen on 6/20/1900 in Fredrikshald. She was born in Fredrikshald, Norway on 2/13/1874. Her father's name was Johannes Larsen and her mother's name was Johanna Sophie Jakopren(maiden name). I know she had a brother by the name of Anton Larsen who came to the US before they did. They lived with him in Chicago, Illinois after they got to the US and he purchased their tickets for them to come to the US. She also had a brother by the name of Johan who traveled with them to the US. Marie would have been pregnant with their first child, Sofia, when they left Norway. Sofia was born on 12/2/1901 in Chicago, Illinois. They entered the US at Ellis Island, New York on 6/7/1901. My great-grandfather did become a US citizen on 4/18/1941but my great-grandmother had passed away in 1940 before she became a US citizen. Any information about these two families would be greatly appreciated. I never got to meet them and there are no pictures of them that I know of. All I have are the copies of those papers. Thank You!

Thank you so much to both of you, jwiborg and eibache, for all the information that you have given me. I didn't know anything about my great-grandparents other than that they were Norwegian. So you sending me this information is wonderful! My grandmother always wanted to find her brother, Johannes Johannesen, who disappeared one day never to be heard from again. All I do know is that he was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 1, 1905 and his last known residence in 1940 was Minneapolis, Minnesota. I have posted information requests about him in both towns but so far no response. I thought he might have traveled to Norway for some reason. That is why I mention it. Again, thank you from the bottom of my heart for the information!

Stay in Chicago was of short duration and Sophia was a twin? Here's a possible in 1910 in Iowa:

Many thanks for the reassurance!

Digesting the survivors mentioned in family obituaries published in the Canton Repository:
Mrs. Christ Johnson died 31 Dec 1940 and has two obits with variations in the list of survivors. The obits were published side-by-side on the same page on the same day:
1. Survivors in the first set: Husband, daughters Mrs. Lulu Norris, Mrs. Agnes Jones, Mrs. Sophia Papas and son Joseph of Wisconsin.
2. Survivors in the other obit: husband, same daughters and son Johannes who is characterized as "of Canton."

Mrs. Sophia Pappas dies 23 Sept 1942 and her survivors are her husband, her 11 children, her father Christ Johnson, her sisters Mrs. Aaron Jones, and Mrs. Lulu Norris. No brother is mentioned.

Christ Johnson dies 6 Feb 1951 and he is survived by (those given names) 2 daughers, Mrs. Norris and Agnes Jones. Again no son mentioned.

So we have Johannes' info from census records:

actual birthdate 1 January 1905

1910 (actual schedule reads rather than familysearch transcription) 4 name Chris
1920 14 name Uhannes
1930
1940

I found only 1 Johnson with a J first initial born 1 Jan 1905, died in 1953 Georgia is where the SSN was issued :

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JYCP-4Y8

Here is another close one:
Name:
Johan Johnson
State of Issue:
Oregon
Date of Birth:
Tuesday  January  03, 1905
Date of Death:
March  1974
Est. Age at Death:
69 years, 2 months
Last known residence: City:
Eugene; College Crest; Country Club Plaza; Crow; Fir Grove; Irving; Valley River Center
County: Lane
State: Oregon
ZIP Code: 97401

He's already gone from the family by 1925:
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QKQ3-JD5L

Probably Johan in 1915 in Iowa:
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QK4R-YV8J

This transcription of his birth record says that Johannes was born 1 Jan 1906:
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NQRD-93X

Although he is found with his family in the 1920 census, this listing for Johannes Johanneson in a Boys training school in 1920 might also be he:
