In reply to Borge Solem's request for further information on emigration to NZ in the early 1870's of Norwegian (or Scandanavian) emigrants to New Zealand, here are some very good sources.

www.paperspast.natlib.govt.nz

"Papers Past" site 2 March 1872 has an article under title "Scandinavian Immigration"

www.teara.govt.nz/NewZealanders/Newzealandpeoples/Scandinavians

www.geocites.com/scanmanawatu/immigration

I have titles and authors of books that are good reading and some detail by name and family those immigrants to the Napier and Manawatu areas of New Zealand.
Hopefully this will be of help to other researchers.
Sheena Boese.

Hi again, there is also the national maritime Museum in New Zealand.National Archives will have the Stones Post office Directories, and the earlier Regional Almanacs..There is also the very comprehensive Alexander Turnbull library in Wellington,a very good resource. Also Regional Cemetry records.Certain areas in New Zealand had scandanavian settlements. The west Coast of the south island saw many swedish and norwegian settlers, mostly miners during the Gold rush era from the 1860s onwards. It is also a good idea to join the New Zealand Geneology group where you can post enquiries..Regards Graeme Duckett
