Hello, Hans Jacob Olsen was born in Christiana c1853, the son of Ole Christiansen and Berte Maria Jacobsdatter.

Between 1865 and 1875 he emigrated to New Zealand where he married and later divorced, remarrying some years later.

I am trtying to trace his date of departure from Norway and and the name of the ship which carried him to New Zealand. I have been unable to find this so far in New Zealand.

His sisters Fredriccke Olava and Karen Kristine arrived in NZ in 1879 and 1875. Another sister Caroline arrive in 1884 and passed away in 1896.

I suspect that their other sister Marie also emigrated to NZ but again I have had no luck in tracking her arrival down. She may have been married before she came as I have not found any marriage records for her in NZ

Any ideas?

From your earlier topic
you know Hans Jacob was born Jan 31 1854, see top of page
his parents Ole Christensen and Birthe Marie Jacobsdatter was then living in Hausmandsgaden.
Hans Jacob should have been confirmed approx 1868, not found. Not found in the 1875 census either.
His sister Karen Christine was confirmed 1870, see #105
her mother with her second husband was then living at Dalsbergstien 88. In
1875 she was a servant in Deichmannsgade 21 and it looks like she left Kristiania Oct 1875 with St. Olaf see 15940
No hits for the other siblings so far.
When Fredrikke Olava was confirm Oct 1 1876 they were living at St Hanshougen, see
#86
So far Maries baptismal record has not been found, Ingrid Marie Olsdatter was confirmed Oct 4 1874, she was born Febr 1 1859 and baptized July 20. Her parents are recorded as Ole Christoffersen (should have been Ole Christensen, who was dead) and Berthe Marie Jacobsen (should have been Jacobsdatter) - they were living at Gedemyrsveien 7 - same address as in the 1875 census, see
#109
Caroline was born Jan 3 1864, baptized March 13. Famil was living at Pilestredet (same as in the 1865 census).
When she was confirmed Oct 5 1879 the family was living at Incognitoterasse 2, see #25

Thanks Eibache for that summary.

The 1875 census shows that Hans, Marie and Karen were no longer living with their mother.

We know that Karen Kristine emigrated to NZ in 1875. So did their father Ole emigrate with them to NZ sometime after 1870. The other children would have been too young to travel by themselves. Or had Ole died? and Hans travelled with his sister Marie?

There is no doubt that Hans was here in NZ and most likely also Marie as three sisters are in a 1909 photo (by that time Caroline has passed away) - Olava, Karen and probably Marie. The photo also has one other lady who could be Hans's wife.

1. Is there any record of Ole's death?
2. If not are there and emigration or passenger lists showing him leaving Norway? Did he have his children with him?

It's all a bit of a mystery

yes, look at your earlier topic
"Fredrikke Olaves father Ole Christensen 47 years old died June 6 1867, see #101"
also when the first child of Birthe Marie her second husband to be was baptized, the mother was "enken Birthe Marie"

Thnks for that - I had missed Ole's death and have noted Karen's departure - she arrived here on board the Shakespeare so must have changed ships in Hamburg.

It's the other family members that I have been unable to trace

Marie
Hans Jacob

At this end I have not tracked down their arrival - they must have been here before Olava. Karen took a trip to accompany Caroline on her trip to NZ, but cannot find anything relating to the arrival of either Hans or Marie.

Hans was in the newspares www.paperspast.natlib.govt.nz on various ocassions relating to a messy extra marital affair.

Is there any record of Berthe and her second husband emmigrating?

Once agin thanks
