I am looking for any information I can find concerning my great-grandfather. He went by the name of Martin Lee here in America but we do not believe that was his name when he was in Norway. He claimed to have been born in Lyngstad on October 30, 1885. It is believed that he then left Norway and went to Canada and eventually (in 1905) to America. I know that is not much to go on but any information would be appreciated. |

I think he must be Martin Martinusen Lyngstad from Inderøya, Nord-Trøndlag, emigrant-list 1905 His birthday is some different: 7. April 1885: Inderøy church book 1885. It is interesting that he in 1905 is travelling together with Olaf Martin Petersen Lie (=Lee). |

He was most likely Martin Larsen, see 1900 census. His baptismal record is #3 he was born Oct 30 1885 and bapt Febr 21 1886. His father was Lars Olsen and mother Ane Martha Sivertsdatter. Martins mother died Aug 30 1888, see #1 The father was married to his second wife Beret Marta Kristensdatter when they baptized Marta Serina in 1890.

Darrin -- Where did Martin Lee live in the United States? What did he do for a living? Who did he marry? Where and when?
Also, did he become a naturalized US citizen? |

Martin met my great-grandmother (Eli Pederson from Alstahaug) here in America and they married on May 21, 1915, in Minot, North Dakota. They then moved to the Seattle area and eventually ended up settling in Nehalem, Oregon. He was a logger by trade and would disappear in to the logging camps for periods of time and then show up at home.
It is also interesting to note that emigration records may show that he may have been traveling with someone as he had a cousin who also came to America. I just learned today that they probably came to America together and then traveled to Canada for a short period of time.
I am trying to find out if Martin ever became a US citizen. I know that his wife filed to Declaration of Intention (I have a copy) but she never became an actual US citizen. He was regarded by friends and family as a somewhat shady character and we do not know if he ever filed any citizenship paperwork. |

Martiin Larsen Lyngstad from Eide is probably the right man, as the birthday 30. Oct 1885. is a good match. I don't know when or where he is in the emigration list.
The emigrant Martin Lyngstad from Inderøya in 1905 is a different person. |

Here is his emigration from Trondheim on May 1st, 1906. He is from Eide in Kvernes, Møre & Romsdal county.
Martin Larsen Lyngstad (20) arrived Ellis Island on May 16, 1906 on the ship Hellig Olav, sailing from Kristiania, Norway on May 4th. (At Ellis Island, he is registered as Martin Loisen Lyngslod.) His destination was Webster, South Dakota, and the ticket was paid by cousin Elling Olsen in Day co, South Dakota.
