My ancestor travelled from Norway to England where he became crew on a ship travelling to Australia in 1859. Were every norwegian travelling overseas from Norway required to have a passport in the period from 1852 to 1859? Would their be any records of passports isued at that time

I have a copy of a passport from a family from Land parish, father, mother and 9 children on April 8.1857 issued from Hadeland and Land Bailiff district in Oppland County where all the names and ages were listed: Erik Hansen: Kone (wife) Ragnild age 44 og Børn (and children) Karen age 24, Mathea age 17, Nocoline age 14, Niels age 11, Ana age 8, Christian age 4 og (and) Olaf age 1. For emigration from here to Amerika has requested/applyed for a passport, the requestion is granteed and he (the family) was free to travel. This place has no infection/contagion. The passport is only valid for this journey.

Left side of the passport had following description;
