Hello

I`m trying to help a friend locating his uncle who left Norway sometime in the late 1890`s.
That`s also the main problem, they don`t know when he left, or where he went. The only inforamtion they have, is that in 1903 he had an adress inn New York City, and that he in 1938 was on a "british lightship". If the lightship was british or american, nobody knows, but most likely it was an american lightship, although he said he was leaving for the US and that the adress they have on him in 1903 is in the US.

I`ve searched passenger lists leaving Norway, but I haven`t found him there. He come from a family with long traditions on the ocean, up until today, so he probably got job on a boat, and from there went on to the USA:

His name is Nikolai Iversen (Hopen), born 21.june 1879 in Hopen parish, Smøla in Møre&Romsdal, Norway.
His father was Iver Johan Jensson Glasoy (Hopen) b. 1836, and mother Nikoline Olsdtr. Skomsoy, b. 1840.

I find one Nick Iverson in the census 1920, he`s a seaman on boat, and in 1920 he`s living in San Francisco, CA.

Is there anybody out there who have some good ideas where to searc more, is there any possibility to find out anything about those lightships and crews?

I know the family back in Norway would be very happy if they got to know anything about him.
