I would like a copy of the passenger list that appeared in the newspaper article reference on this link. My ancestor Lars Tarjesen Revskjel was one of the signers of this document. Not only am I interested from a personal point of view but also because I am a teacher involved in a grant called Teaching American History and obtaining primary document copies is a part of our project. Please advise how I could get a copy. Your website provided a major breakthrough in my research! Because Quebec did not keep records during this time period, your addition of this article really added spice as well as invaluable information on ship, sailing date and arrival. Thank you so much! Her is a copy of the Recommendation found in the Skien based newspaper Correspondenten September 15, 1852

Recommendation, for our countrymen with intends to immigrate to North America. We passengers on the Ship Bolivar will become aware for our countrymen who intend to immigrate to the North American free states about this Ship. She is arranged to maintain the immigrants health and cure by all means. 1) By its size there is plenty off room to share. Below deck there are arranged two rooms where passengers have their berths and they are so large that a grown up median adult can sit up straight. 2) Under room or as we called it the “basement” is for keeping different commodity like beer and wine and so on. 3) The ship is equipped with airways so the passengers never had to worry about unhealthy and nauseating air. 4) It is a good sail ship and very comfortable for journey over the ocean
About the captain Mr. Pettersen who is by our judgments not only a social and proper also a human loving man. By his impartial and religious character he had managed each and every immigrant on a way that there are several of evidence of. On the start of our sailing there were many of us that got several illnesses by the sea air and disheartened. With his small skilled medical knowledge he gave his patients medicine for free to cure their illnesses, he also visited their berths regularly to make sure that his patients had their meals and that the medicine worked well. The rumor says he is a skilled sailor and grown up adult. We always won sailing when we had company with other ships. It to be said that the quarantine doctor in Quebec gave the statement that there had never been a ship like this arriving due to its order and cleanness and that’s the Captains cause. To spear unnecessary postage we the immigrants decided that two respectable men of each county (bygdelag) to sign this letter on behalf of all the others.
