Hi,
A couple of weeks ago I posted on Norway Heritage forum an inquiry about my great grandfather's sister Otilie Marie Pedersdatter.
In the course of discussing the family an interesting issue came up concerning the birth and baptismal record of my great grandfather. In the family he was known to have a birth date of 27 Jan 1869, my grandmother was quite certain of this, but eibache found the online listing as showing birthdate of 27 Jan 1870.
"I hope you don't mind a small correction on your great grandfathers birthyear, see#22 he was born Jan 27 1870 and baptized March 20."
I'd forgotten quite a lot of the detail about that very early search and remembered only that my grandmother was insistent about his birthdate. But today I pulled out my file on Pete Pederson and found that I had actually gotten two copies of his birth/baptism, one of which matches the online entry (which apparently was scanned from microfilm LDS 0278205 and I had copied) and the other from LDS 0124054.
There are a few differences, 124054 is book 13 as is 278205, no page on my copy, but entry #11. On 0124054 mother's farm is not given but the baptism is listed as hjemmedobt and the birthdate is 27 Jan 1869, but baptism is 20 March 1870.
Just wondering if anyone else on the forum has had similar experience.
So words to wise, if there is more than one version of the same record, get both. But it is certainly true that a man with more than one watch is never really sure what time it is....

Hi Jackie.
HOw are you? Yes, in researching my family I have seen the birth records from the Chuch Records and they clearly state a birth that is different from what the family had been celebrating. But they were off by only a couple of days. |

Hi Erik,
Thanks but yes in this case the difference is also within the church records themselves! One microfilm is of a register which includes Norderhov, Haug and Lunder and the other contains only Norderhov!

Hei, It was two church books, official "Mini" and copy "Klokkerbok" recorded in cooperation by the priest and the parish clerck, likley no proofreading, of course wrongspellings of name and dates appear, it happened it was all "forgotten" until next Sunday too according locals because the priest and the parish clerk had "tasted" to much of the church wine, but we can assume that was an exception.
I use LDS as a supplement.
