Marriage of Lars Larson Butveit (sp) to Ingaborg Tellefsdatter Abusland recorded in Evje 1816-1840 Ministerialbok see number 24 on page 411
Aust-Agder fylke, Evje, Ministerialbok nr. A 4 (1816-1840), Ekteviede 1837, side 410-411
I have not found a farm named Abusland in Oluf Rygh list of farm names.
Does anyone have information on this location. Sorry have not yet figured out how links work.

Hi,
Oluf Rygh's books were printed in the late 1800s and early 1900s. I find it useful to look for farm names in the 1801, 1865, or 1875 Norwegian census closest to the date of the record I'm trying to understand. Sometimes, farm names are spelled in the local dialect or are known by some local nickname which might not appear in Rygh
In the 1801 farm search you will find Abusland as the correct name.
If Ingaborg Tellefsdatter's marriage is of interest, I think you might also be interested in the marriage just below it. It is for enkemann (EM) Tellef Svenkerson Abusland--could he be Ingaborg's father?

In the past nearly 200 years that farm's name spelling may have changed a great deal -- or the farm may no longer even exist.
Rygh lists farms under the modern spelling to then be able to show you the history of the farm's name and sometimes the etymology of the word(s). So you could approach the challenge in reverse by looking for modern farm names in the Evje area which you feel MIGHT have been changed over time and checking what Rygh then lists as past spellings for the same farm.
Try searching Rygh for the modern spellings as can be found in the 1950 online database and the reverse searching strategy. It just might work.

Try Aapaasland. Today's spelling is Abusland again.

You could also ask this woman, she is registered on Abusland Aapaasland (Apple land).

Why not use this interactive map Zoom to your liking and see the buildings with the hybrid version. |

Thank you all for your help it is greatly appreciated. Now I can do some work on my own. Great suggestion on Tellef Svenker Abusland one step down. I would have missed that. |
