I have been given the birth place of Peter Pederson Quall (1861-1942) as "Kval-eie, Saksumsdal, Faaberg Parish, Norway." I have also been given the information from the 1865 census that shows the family at the Kvalsringen farm. It seems clear that Peter modified the farm name to derive his American surname of Quall. My question is, what is "Saksumsdal" ? A town or village or something else? Another question would be, what is the difference between "Kval-eie" and "Kvalsringen" ? |

Saksumdal is a small township in Fåberg, Oppland, just west of the city Lillehammer. Fåberg merged with Lillehammer in 1964. Saksumdal church is next to the farm Kvalen.
Earlier, there was probably farms named Saksumdal in the area, but there's no farm by that name today. Quall, Kval-eie and "Kvalsringen are most likely small holdings under the farm Kvalen.
