I have a bit of a mystery here. I am researching my ancestor Poul Christensen and I recently found what I thought was him on the 1801 census. I don't know if I am identifying the record correctly so someone can look it up. It is 1801-telling for Froen. He is number 4606. It is the correct Mother but obviously not the correct father. Do I understand this is her 2nd mariage? I am wondering if she was ever married to the father Christen Olsen. Poul's birth can be seen at Vågå 1739 - 1810 ministerialbok, page 67, 4th column 6th record where the Mother Gunhild Poulsdatter is listed first. In Denmark this usually indicates an illegitimate birth. Later I have Christen Olsen Married to Kari Engbrethsdatter 16 July 1780.

Also I do not think Poul was married to Marit Isaksdatter (Rustom) whose daughter Gunhild Poulsdatter I am descended from. Gunhild was born September 1804. In 30 October 1814 I have Poul married to Kari Syversdatter.

I have been searching but can not find the death of either Poul or his Mother.

Would appreciate any help in verifying my assumptions or any other light that can be shown on this family.

I will try to assist other members, by posting Poul's birth record.

4th column, 6th entry

Here is a birth record for a Gunild (Poulsdtr?) dated 24 May 1804. Is this your Gunhild?
1st page, 8th entry

Poul was bapt Sept 25 1774, he was an "uægte" child (born out of wedlock). In the 1801 census it is wrong to say that Poul is "Deres søn" since Gunil now was married to Iver (her 2. marriage) and Poul should then have been Poul Iversen.

- that's right Gunild was also "uægte" - born out of wedlock, see separate listing of bapt of "uægte barn", her record is the 3rd on right hand page. Marits father Isach Rusten is one of the witnesses. In
1801 he was a widower, Marit and her brother are living with their father.

Thank you so much. I can now quit searching for those marriage records.

Is Poul's Father mentioned at his birth.? If so could I get a translation of the birth record?

Pouls father was Xsten = Christen Olsen, Ellewsrudeie.
The record reads: Gunild Poulsdatter og (and) Xten Olsens u-ægte (born out of wedlock) Poul
Witnesses were: Engelbret Lofsgaard, Ole sør Ellewsrud, Peder Ulsdal, Anne Blækestad, Mali Østvigen.
