She was born in Norway in 1847 and probably arrived in the US around 1870. She married NH Roberts and they settled in Wisconsin and eventually in Minneapolis. I'm trying to find out the ship she sailed to arrive in Quebec or New York and to see how she connected with NH Roberts- a man 30 years older from Maine.

Could she have met him in Minnesota. There is a Nathan H Roberts listed in the 1870 US Census living in Mower County. He is listed as being born in 1816 in Maine. He is living with his wife Elvira born in 1814 also in Maine. Now Mower County is near the Iowa border and a bit of a distance from Hennepin County where your N H Roberts is living in the 1880 Census with wife Mary. Maybe a long shot.

Going back one step further to the 1860 US Census shows a Nathan H Roberts born abt 1816 in Maine living with wife Elvira and children Charles 14 and Mary 11 in Richfield, Hennepin, Minnesota. Richfield is of course a suburb of Minneapolis.

And going back one step further yet to the 1850 US Census we find a Nathan Roberts born abt 1814 living in Harmony, Somerset, Maine with wife Elvira and children Charles 4 and Mary 1.

I would venture a guess that this is the same family that appears ten years later in Minnesota.

Could this be your Maren? She is traveling with a group from Modum, Buskerud to Pairie du Chien, Wisconsin.

She could be the one sailing from Oslo 1869
she was then living in Modum, but there was no Maren Sophie Samuelsdatter born in Modum 1847.
The farm Langum is in Skoger and there a Maren Sophie was born May 8 1847, see #44
The Maren S Samuelsdatter in the 1865 census was born in "Skauger"=Skoger, not in Haug Eiker.

I was some confused when I saw that Einar, it should have been born 1846.
I think Maren Sophie was named after an older sister who died young born in Eiker.
If I remember right we have been working on this family earler, Langum-Holthe?
Langum is in Skoger and Holthe in Eiker.
Same name, same parents or a tripple namesake? #105

You may or may not be interested in following the ancestors of each and evey one of your distant relatives and you probably are aware already of the large amount of Internet data on Nathan Hall Roberts and his Parents Joseph Roberts and Margaret Hall. But if it interests you, you can Google Nathan Hall Roberts.
