I am searching for the passenger list and birthplace of Peder Hogenson (Haagensen) born 21 Sep 1834 in Hardanger. He immigrated to the US about 1854 with his wife Sonova(Sonneva/Syneve) Brynildsdatter born 9 Aug 1830 and a son Kristoffer P. Hogenson born 28 Apr 1853. They went to Illinois, Wisconsin and then settled in Rock Dell Tsp, Olmsted County, Minnesota.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Kathy, here is his christening record (bottom line):
Peder Haagensen Born: 21 Sep 1834 Christening: 28 Sep 1834, Kvam, Hordaland Parents: Haagen Torbjørnsen & Sognie Christophersdr, Lille Aas farm in Kvam, Hordaland
Here is the parents in census-1865.
Marriage record #13 Peder Haagensen (19½) & Synneva Bringelsdr (22) Marriage date: 14 Jun 1853, Øystese in Kvam, Hordaland His father: Haagen Torbjørsen Her father: Bringel Johannesen
Christopher Pedersen Born: 20 Apr 1853 Christening: 19 Jun 1853, Øystese in Kvam, Hordaland Parents: Peder Haagensen Lilleaas & Synneva Bringelsdr
Note: Christopher is listed as illegitimate child, and the parents are listed as "bachelor" and "girl". A bit strange if they married 5 days earlier...

The history and genealogies for the Kvam area along the Hardanger fjord are well documented in -- "Ættarbok for Kvam", 4 volumes by L. H. Torpe; "Gårdshistorie for Kvam, Stod og Egge herreder", by N. Taraldsen.
Two volumes are available on microfilm at any LDS Family History Center. |

"Peder Hogenson (Haagensen)"s paternal family ancestral line can be traced in volume II of the "Ættarbok for Kvam", 4 volumes by L. H. Torpe going back until about 1625 on the farm therein called "Litlås". That volume can be used by anyone interested on microfilm #0388852 of the LDS Family History Library collection and available for order at any of their worldwide Family History Centers. I just double checked and the information about Peder/Per's family and his parent's family can be found on pages 324-325 of that volume -- the earler generations extend into earlier pages of the volume.
The following website is an index to Hardanger farm names that can be found on books, microfillm or microfiche in the collection of the LDS Family History Library. http://www.xmission.com/~jsvare/genealogy/aettarboker/

Dear Jan,
Thank you so much for your reply to my query. Just last evening we found Kvam as birthplace of Peder Hogenson and Oystesø as birthplace of Christopher at LDS online and then located the parish record at the digital archives. We had many questions about the name Lilleaas in the record and thought it may be the farm name. We could not find the farm but now I see it is Lille Aas farm in Kvam. It is great to have that information since we may visit Norway again and would like to find the farm.
Again thank you and sorry I did reply sooner - I wasn't notified by email that I had a response. I just checked today!! By the way my husband has been looking for this information for several years and is very excited to know where in Hardanger that his great grandfather was born.

Wow! Thanks for the information - it is especially helpful to know the farm name if we travel there again - we were wondering if Lilleaas was the farm name but couldn't find it. We will order the microfillm. Sorry I didn't answer sooner but was not notifed by email of a response.
