Dave,

I have found this online dictionary to be of some help in reading the church records. It does contain most of the genealogical terms.

Lynda thanks for the help but I think my problem for the most part is trying to figure out what the letters are, written in cursive, very stylish, some are easy and then others are just works of art in my eyes? I am a full-blooded Norwegian but can not speak or read a word in my parent's native tongue? And here you guys do both languages! Possibly more? Color me jealous.

With all the help from the people connected to Norway-Heritage my family has discovered the following:

Edward Benjamin and Hans Amundson don’t share a common ancestor; but, the Census of 1875 for Aag tells the story of their relationship.

Johanne Bertelsdatter Gaardb. og Eier 1818 Melø Sogn i R. Pr
John Iversen Hjelper Moderen 1858 Melø Sogn i R. Pr.
Hanna Pedersdatter Tjenestepige 1852 Melø Sogn i R. Pr
Hans Amundsen Fossøn af No. 1 1862 Melø Sogn i R. Pr.
Kornelius Pedersen Inders og Fiskeri 1846 Melø Sogn i R. Pr.
Lavine Iversdatter Hans Kone 1849 Melø Sogn i R. Pr.
Per Korneliussen 1871 Melø Sogn i R. Pr.
Lava Olsdatter Føderaadskone 1785 Brønø Pr.
Johan Eliassen Tilreisende 1852 Kjøttø Pr.

John Eliassen, the visitor, is the older brother of my G Grandfather Petter Christian Angel Eliassen.

He also appears in the 1875 Census living with his mother at Kila, Rødøy.

John Eliassen married Kornelius Pedersen’s younger sister Bereth Pedersd. on October 14, 1877.

The father of Kornelius and Bereth is Peder Larsen.

Hans and Edward Benjamin were cousins by adoption and marriage.

Thank you all for your help.
