My husband has ancestors who immigrated from Rogne. Is there a Rogne farm in Voss? I found records in the parish register but cannot find the location of the farm. Voss Now has several pictures for Rogne which appear to be a town rather than a farm. Does anyone has access to the Ætterbok for this farm?

Thank you for any information.

Hi Kathy,

Not having any particular information about your folks, in the farm search in the 1865 census at the Norwegian Digitalarkivet, a search for Rogne find 10+ farms of that name in Oppland and only 2 of that name in Hordaland. Do you have some family record which indicates that the family was from Voss?

Searching on a map it seems like the farm no longer exists, there are 3 Rokne farms however.
In the 1900 census there were some 16 Rogne farms.

Rogne was a "gard" in the center of Voss. A "gard" was a farm, during the time divided into many units. Today it is near the center of the expanding town. I don't think there is any agricultural activity today - Map

Be sure to use the spelling Rokne (as in the famous Knut Rokne) and check a good map again - especially just directly south of Voss - about 3 km south of the point in Voss where the major roads intersect.

Well, to find the exact place you will have to tell the names of your people, and find what gard-number and bruks-number they had. The 16 Rogne farms in 1900 census had gard-number 49, and they are in middle of Voss town center, according to Norgesglasset
The 4 farms of Store Rokne in 1900 census had gard-number 200, and 4 Lille Rokne had gard-number 199. They are situated 3 km south of town center according to Norgesglasset.

Kathy has a number of postings on another message board system and from the limited information she has made available there --

Her husband's family resided here in 1900 -
'Rogne' in 1900

The family link comes through the daughter born in 1888 in Voss who left from the port of Bergen in 1904. Information previously found.

BUT the poster only asked about locating Rogne on a map.

When Jens died in 1896 the address was Rogne church record. When Gudveig died 1937 her address was Vossevangen church record
I guess it is the same place, Rogne, on Vossevangen (in town).
Jørgine was born 5. July 1888 as Georgine, daughter of husmann Jens Villumsen on Rogne church record nr 60. A husmannsplass på Rogne should be covered in the book Vossa Boki volume 1. Her mother Gudveig was from the farm Bryn, covered in Vossa Boki volume 4

I believe there is still an area or farm named Rogne in Oppland, just north of Fagerness and near Melby-Braaten. One of my ancestors came from that farm in the 1880's.

Hello Kathy!
I live on the farm Rogne, located near the center of Voss. I looked at the link you have posted, that these people have lived on Rogne. This is because the number of the farm is similar to what we have today, 49. I have discussed this with my father, and we do not think that your husband is directly related to us. This as we can not recognize the names listed, in connection with the link. We may think that your husband's relatives were "husmenn". In Norway we had in the old days which we call " husmenn" (those who did not have the capital to buy land themselves, leased land from the larger farmers.( tenant farmers.)) To my knowledge, there was relatively common for "husmenn" to take the farm's name, using it as a surname.
hope this can be of some help!
Oh yes, I know I'm many years late .. hope you find this latest addition.
