Thor Arnetson Melby 1855-1897 Norway
Olava Jakobsen 1854–1933 Orkedalen, Norway
Thor and Olava's children:
Karen Beardier (stayed in Norway) - daughter Sigrid Gjormesti
Alfred Melby 1881 (m. Florence ___) Eau Clare, Wisconsin
Jalmer Melby 1883 – 1963 (m Mary Agnes Ryan) my ggparents Minda Melby 1885 – 1962 (m Joe Felix) - son James
Olga Melby 1897-1957
John Melby 1889-1995 - 3 children: Jane, Lewis, Tom
Clara Melby (m Herbert Springer) - daughter Grace DeRubeis
Helga Melby 1893–1968 (m Thurston Barrett) - daughter Dorothy
Many of these relatives were in Memomonie, Wisconsin.
Anyone relatives out there? :)
Anyone who can help me acquire more information?

| It looks as if you know a lot about your family including most of the things found in census records. Are you looking for information on ancestors in Norway, information on living relatives in the US or something else. |

Thore Arntsen was born March 11 1855 and baptized April 9. His parents were Arnt Engelsen at Melby and Marit Thoresdatter, see #13
Olava Jakobsdatter was born April 1 1854 and baptized June 11. Her parents were not married, her mother was Karen Johnsdatter and the father was Jacob Olsen from Lensvigen, see #31
Arnt Engelsen and Marit Thoresdatter were married Nov 30 1853, see #21
Arnt was then 38 years old and born at Solem in Orkdal, his father was Engel Olsen. Marit was 24 years old and born at Megaard in Orkdal, her father was Thore Johnsen.

I would love information on my ancestors in Norway.
I would love information on (and contact with) living relatives.
I'd also like to learn when Thor and Olava came to the USA. |

What are those records? I just ran across some notes in my file that said Thor and Olava came to the USA in June 1881. |

Olava (Jacobsdatter) Melby emigrated Aug 10 1881, see 27688 her ticket was paid from Amerika.

Thore (Arntsen) Melbys mother Marith Thoresdatter was born Nov 5 1829 and baptized Dec 25. Her parents were Thore Jonsen, Megaard and Ingeborg Jonsdatter, see #12
His father Arnt Engelsen was born Aug 25 1816 and baptized Sept 15. His father was Engel Olsen Solem, see #55 and his mother was Fredrikka Elisabet Ericsdatter. See their marriage record Nov 5 1807, #20

This is very likely your Olava Melby dates look right even tho all of the passengers on this page are listed as being from Sweden. Her age is listed as 26, which is where the birth year comes from.

Thore was a little harder to find, note the spelling. You need to take the Nationality with a grain of salt. Like many immigrants from Norway he changed ships in England.The birth year, name and date of immigration look good. Again from ancestry.com.

I could find the family in the 1905 Wisconsin State Census, see below, but not for some unknown reason in the 1900 US Census.

Thank you so much! This has really been wonderful. I feel like I've just gained 8 new family members!
Most of my family can be traced back to the early 1700s - several lines go back to the 1500s - making this particular part of my ancestry look so neglected. Thanks to the two of you, it's now looking much, much better! Yay!

Karen Johnsdatter and her daughter Olava Jacobsdatter, who were born out of wedlock, in 1865 Karen was then a servant at Isdahlsløkken farm, still unmarried.
Karen Johnsdatter was born Aug 7 1832 and baptized Oct 1. Her parents were John Throndsen, Isdahl and Brynild Hendriksdatter.
John Throndsen, Børsøren 26 years old and Brynnild Hendrichsdatter, Isdahl 27 years old were married Nov 14 1822, see #16
Jon Tronsen (John Throndsen) and his parents, Tron Jonsen and Gunil Iversdatter, and siblings in 1801

Engel Olsen Solem was baptized Febr 2 1777, see #12-1 on top of left page. His father was Ole Solem = Ole Rasmussen who was married to Ingeborg Engelsdatter July 17 1774, see under #7 on right page.
