HI,
You probably have this information but will list it just in case. This is from the South Dakota Department of Health website:
Children listed as born to Cornelius Hill and Louisa Swenson:
Harold Hill - Born July 9, 1899 in Day County
Clarence Hill - Born December 19, 1900 in Day County
Roy Hill - Born October 9, 1903 in Day County
Good luck in your research for your family in Norway. Kathy

Hey Kathy
I just got off the phone with Minot Public Library... obituraries are quite costly there... http://www.minotlibrary.org/genealogyresearch.html Ten dollars prepaid, whether they find one or not, most libraries I have worked with are no charge or a very small fee. Cornelius and his family would add up quick, now if I could just find someone living in the area that needed some obituaries from Oregon... thanks again. Dave

Hi,

Well if the township is named after him and the name of the township is Hilton--there are even fewer farms in Norway known as Hilton... In the 1865 / 1875 censuses looks to be under a dozen farms of that name and they appear to be in Ullensaker in Akershus....

Hi,

Well there is a Kornelius born in Ullensaker in 1870, #192 but different birthdate than your Cornelius and no obvious connection to the Hilton farm:

Source information: Akershus county, Ullensaker, Parish register (official) nr. I 16 (1863-1875), Birth and baptism records 1870, page 120.

Hi,
I e-mailed a person who does look-ups in the book People, Places and Events; Minot, Ward County. I asked for any information on Cornelius Hill. Will get back if anything new is discovered. Kathy

Hi,

At rootsweb there is also someone who has included information on Cornelius Hill:

http://worldconnect.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=niteowlgrandma&id=I15781

Maybe you and niteowlgrandma can help each other.

And there is a genealogical society at Minot, the Mouse River Genealogical Society, perhaps they might do obit lookups for you...

Hi Dave,
I just heard from the person I sent a e-mail to. There is no information on where Cornelius is from in Norway, but I will send you what she sent me. She also said she would e-mail a photo of two of Cornelius Hill's children out of the book. I am sending you my home e-mail address through Norway Heritage and if you send me yours, I will forward them to you. That would be easier than copying all the information. Kathy

Here is the basic information from the Ward County Centennial Book of People. Places & Event; Minot & Ward County; 100 Years of Magic, page 431
Cornelius Hill was born in Norway on Feb. 8, 1870 and Louisa Swenson was born in Iowa on Sept. 9 1873. They met in Webster, S.D. and were married there in January of 1894. They resided on a farm near Langford, S.D. for many years. Six of their children were born there: Minnie, Annie, Harold, Clarence, Ray and Irene.
Mr. Hill filed on a homestead about 12 miles northeast of Douglas in the spring of 1905 and brought the family here from South Dakota the following year. The four younger children were born in Hilton township. Their children were: Minnie, (Mrs. O.E.Gunderson) of Shellbrook, Sask. Canada; Annie (Mrs. Albert Peterson) of Fargo, N.D.; Harold of rural Douglas; Roy and Otto of Astoria, Ore.; Quentin of Stanley, N.D.; Irene Day of Max, N.D. and Clarence, Lloyd and Lester in Minot.
Mr. and Mrs. Hill lived on their homestead until 1937, when they retired and moved to Minot. Mrs. Hill died August of 1948 and Mr. Hill died in June of 1966. Minnie, Annie and Otto are also deceased.
Hilton township was named after Mr. Hill
The kind person that sent me this also has listings for the cemeteries in Ward County with the last name of Hill. Will give them to you also if you want. Still doesn't solve the problem of where in Norway Mr. Hill was from. Kathy

I was hoping that someone with access to ancestry.com could have checked up this Kornelius Gabrielson (19), who arrived in New York on May 18th, 1889.
Maybe he travelled together with some friends from his hometown? Maybe they are listed with farmnames? Maybe their hometown are listed on the manifest?
Anyway, the names listed just above and below him on the manifest could be interesting. I have not been able to locate this Kornelius Gabrielson's departure from Norway, but it should have been around May 1st, 1889, +/- a few days.

Hey Kathy...
Thanks for all the information on the Hills of ND. With a few little changes in our file we are now up to date. I changed my ISP so my email address changed.. when I tried to change it on my profile I must have done something wrong.. then I could not log on.. forgot my password.. could not get old password because old email address no longer worked... just a mess. Well I am kind of back on, found my old password and will try to change old email to new one... thanks again for all the information on the Hills, neat!
Jan Peter, I will see what I can do about your request. I do not have full access to Ancestry but perhaps enough? Thanks again.. nice to be back on Heritage.. Dave

Hi,
I haven't heard back yet from the woman who has the other information. If I don't hear from her later today will e-mail her again. They are farmers/ranchers so are probably a little busy right now. Will send you the information when I receive it. Kathy
