The link is to the Digitized page that shows the birth of Ole Osmundssen Kalland Abusland at the top left hand side of the page.

I see the date is 17, but not sure what the month is. Also, just prior to the entry is COM 58 and at the end is COM 46. I am not familiar with these notations. Can anyone assist in helping me read this?

Thanks in advance

The notations (abbreviation?) for 'Com' don't appear to have any relationship to the baptism other than happening in the same church.
The baptism was on the 17 Sunday after Trinity and the notation of Com 46.
The next entry is a marriage on the 20th Sunday after Trinity of Kidel xxxx? and Torbjor Olsdtr ....... etc, etc, and a notation of Com. 60.
Then a notation of probably a date from the church calendar and the 'Int' (Introduction) of the mother listed in the record you have interested in -- and 'Com. 22'.
Next entry is for the 23 Sunday after Trinity and notation of 'Com. 48'.

Perhaps Com. notations are tracking how many persons took communion that Sunday?? or how many persons were present in church that Sunday.

Was that type of notation discussed at all in the article about reading and using Norwegian church records?

Since the year was 1711, 17 Sunday after Trinity was Sept 27.
quote:
Also, just prior to the entry is COM 58 and at the end is COM 46
Com 58 relates to how many persons went to communion 16 p Tr (16 Sunday after Trinity = Sept 20) and the Com 46 relates to the number of persons that went to communion on 17 Sunday after Trinity.
The entry for 20 p Tr (20 Sunday after Trinity) is 3 marriages
Kidel Gislesen og Torbor Olsdatter,
Skogdrif Salvesen og Ranni Borresdatter,
Lars Olson og Siri Siversdatter.
Com 60 = 60 persons went to communion that Sunday.

It was not discussed on that link. I had already read it and did not find the answer there.

Thank you for the information. Another reply to my question in fact does tell me that it was the number of Communicants in the church for that Sunday.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the information. That helps a lot.

On John Follesdal's page, he does have a list of the Sundays and a link to another page that will translate the ecclesiastical date to the gregorian calender so that should be very helpful in the future.

Thank you for the information. It helped a lot.
