Ole Knutson was born in Rindal in 1845. He emigrated to Minnesota in the 1870s, and in the 1880 census he is living with his brother Johns family in Wergeland, Yellow Medicine county, Minnesota.

http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=7&filnamn=MINN1880&gardpostnr=49476&merk=49476#ovre

He was later married to a Bessie Brickson. I only have the names of the children, no year of birth. Is there anyone who could search the census and see where they lived and when Bessie and their children were born ? The children :

Emil Knutson
Carl
Henry
Ida
Albert
Lena
John
Mae
William

Thank you, Hopkins. This is just what I was looking for.

I guess that their last child, William, was born in 1900 or just after.

At least two of the Knutson children are included in the online website for "Minnesota Birth Certificates Index" at
http://people.mnhs.org/bci/search.cfm?CFID=2570216&CFTOKEN=31506479&bhcp=1

Search for the child Mae Knutson born Yellow Medicine Co. gave a listing that the mother's maiden name was Buxon.

Then search for Knutson child, mother's maiden name Buxon finds a Willie Knutson born 1903.

The website lists 1900 and later birth certificates - with only SOME coverage of pre-1900. You can also find link to the Minnesota Death Certificates index from that page.

His parents were Knut Engelsen (1795-1869) and Gjertrud Halvorsdatter b.1801. She emigrated March 15,1873 from Trondheim to Minnesota, but I haven΄t found any info about her after she left Norway.

Thank you, Peder. This was a lot of new info to me !

You are right - the church records shows his mother was Gjertrud ANDERSDATTER, not Halvorsdatter, but that is wrong. Her name was Halvorsdatter. Ole was born May 29, 1845 and bapt. June 22. This is the right Ole even though the date of birth is not the same.

I have just found the first trace of Oles mother in America. In the 1880 Census she is living in Lincoln county, Minnesota, with the family of her daughter Elen Jacobson. Gjertrud has taken the name Knutson, like her children. I had given up finding any info about her in America, but is it possible to find her year of death ? She probably died in the 1880s or 90s as she was born in 1801.
