I would like to see and copy a map of Ovre Stordal, Norway, like it was in 1865. My g-g-grandparents emigrated from the Bakken farm in Nord, Trondelag. Is there any info on the Sorkil farm and the Sandbjorgen farm? My g-g-grandfather is listed as Tosten Sorkil left Trondheim on March 22, 1882. Thank you.

Hi,
you already have a map of these two farms in this topic.
You can find Sørkil and Sonbjørga using the link to Norgesglasset above.

How the area looked like in 1865 is not so easy to figure out. Maps from that time most likely exist, but not sure where... The landscape was more or less the same, and the major farms was there at that time as well. And the roads along the rivers where there. The red road going straight east is the main road going to Sweden for this region.

Interesting location of Sørkil in connection to Hegra Fortress build 1907 as a defence against perceived threat of Swedish invasion.

Two maps from July 1915 show the position of Sørkil written with pen.
It says that in front of the fortress was a front shot battery, "Fonagalleriet", with observers and guns that could reach the bottom of the valley between Sørkil and Austkil (across the river in Jan Peters map) with both light and explosive grenades because light chutes from Hegra could not reach, see the middle of the right side of image 12&13
