I think the Gasman name could come from several countries including Norway who had Gasmen lived her from 1600´s, the origin may be German via Sweden.

I found Harvey Gasman b. July. 9. 1893 in Bark River, Delta, Mich. born to John and Ellen (Erikson) Gasman, they married in Bark River August 17. 1891, no birth records on the parents.

The reason I mentioned an emigration from Gasman in Telemark is because of Hans Jacob Gasman, member of the Norwegian parlaiment. married to Anne Kirstine Pedersdr., see here

Not all emigrated because of powerty.
Gasman family emigrated in 1843 with the servant staff of seven, total 21 persons, see down page 138-159

That Harvey Gasman was actually my grandfather's uncle. He died young. My grandfather was named after him. My grandfather Harvey was the son of John Gasman and Alice Kell. We believe our Gasman line came from Germany. My g-grandfather John Gasman was the son of John Gasman and his first wife, Nancy Hakes. Ellen Erickson John's second wife.

Kind Regards,

To Kare (Kaarto) - Thanks for the links. That link to www.geni.com is actually me (my family tree). As you saw, I didn't know much about my Norwegian ancestry (until now!)

To Harald (hasto) - I can't even begin to thank you enough. I have had contact with Aanen's granddaughter and she has provided me with information and photos! This is the first contact with our family over in Norway since my grandmother, Alma, passed away in 1992. Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou!!

Kind Regards,
Sherry Johnson
