I'm looking for any information on Emma J. Helgeson. I've been looking at ancestry.com and have not been able to find any inforamtion on her. I tried other names like emily etc. but no luck. She was born on Sept 30 1857 and died on April 2, 1942. She married Peder I Peterson (roe) on May 16, 1880. They lived in new hope, Portage County, Wisconsin.

She was born in Norway? When did she emigrate from Norway?

Ancestry.com is NOT an all inclusive repository of ancestral information. The range of information is pretty good for US censuses and records for some areas - but original research in primary sources is necessary for most genealogical work.

In the US-1880 census for New Hope, Wis, Emma J Peterson (22) is listed as born in Wisconsin by Norwegian born parents.

There is a Family Tree on Ancestry.com for Edward Helgeson married to a Johanna Maria Voldengen. This appears to be much the same family although where the 1870 Census has Emma as the child this tree has a Caroline. The tree belongs to

Have you searched the Lutheran Church records? I know that they have some of the Rosholt and Alban Church records available on Microfilm. You could search for Emma's marriage record, since you already have the date. I found the Alban Church records and also Rosholt Concordia Church records. In those I've found births and marriages from the 1880's. You can request those at LDS Centers or if you're in Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Historical Society in Madison, has them.

"From the Indian Land" page 188.

"Ingebrit and Karen Roe from Slemdal got the old homestead. They passed it on to son Per Roe and wife, Emma Helgeson."

This should mean that Per, would of been Per/Peder Ingebritsen in Norwegian records.
