Hi!
In a indian land article I printed out information about the people in New Hope, wisconsin. They had listed that ingbret and karen roe from slemdal aquired a farm that was passed on to Peter and emma roe I know all this information to wisconsin. I looked up slemdal and found out that it was the older parish in Siljan and in another article it said how some farm names were taken from the parish name could this lead to information on roe farm. I also looked on the internet about roe farm in norway and found out that theier is a roe farm rented out for people to stay in when visiting norway. I don't know if any of this is realated at all to the roe farm.

You may be at the stage where you will need to use the Norwegian Bygdebok for Siljan. Depending on where you live there are good collections at the Univ of Minnesota, Univ of Wisconsin and University of North Dakota. Here is the citation from UND.
SILJAN Bakken, Asbjørn. Siljan: Gårdene, slektene, trekk fra bygdelivet. Larvik: Siljan kommune, 1969. Call No. DL596.S55 B33
Here is the same book at the Univ. of Minnesota, Wilson Library
TC Wilson Library 929.1 B179
I suspect, that is if my experience is any guide, that if you find the right Bygdebok with the correct Roe farm in it, usually the farms are listed in the Table of Contents of the book, you will find some of your family and thus be able to trace them both back in time and forward in time. A good starting point from what you seem to have found out would be the Siljan book.

In the 1801 cenus for Siljan the farm was named Røed.
In the 1846 census the name was Røe, see about 3/4 down; Røe Property registry Mtr. "Matrikkel" No. 181 Løbe. No. 549.
Wonder if Karen age 13 could be Karen Roe in Town of New Hope.
New Hope is Portage County, one of the first Norwegian settlers was Aslak Roe from Gjerpen, Skien (Slemdal), he settled down shortly after 1848; 5. line...."Samt (including) Aslak Roe.........fra (from) Gjerpen pr (at) Skien, see from Ulvestads book and Portage county here
1865 census Røe was changed Rød (ytre), same nr; 549, same family exept for Karen was missing and the father Ole Knudsen was a widower, see top right column here

There were two Karen Roe's that I read about in "From the Indian Land". One, was married to Ingebrit and the other to a Lars Roe, so you want to make sure that you're looking at the same one. Both women, were widowed. |

When I clicked on the information stated in a roe farm previous post I saw that the gard name was red and I remember when I was looking at another farm sight about norway farms when the language translated to english the rod changed to red could this possibly be a same link with the roe farm. |

The UW Madison Library has it too! I would check with your local library and request the Table of Contents for the Volumes, since there are 8 of them. Then you can search through the index and find the farm and the volume that you will need. It will be in Norwegian, so I'm guess that you will need some help with translating. :-) I had good luck with getting bygdeboks through OLL at the library. Wanda

It is from Karen's husband Ingebret Pederson that the Roe name comes from. Karen is 24 and live with her widowed father Simon Olsen at Solverød in the 1846-census.Their ancestry have been covered in other topics recently.
