Looking for help in locating where Torvald Kolseth and Emil Bernh Kolseth are from. I can't seem to find them prior to 1875.

Torvald Kjolseth b. 1831 married Marie Secilie Arnesen. They were living in Fredrikstad in 1875 census.

His brother? Emil Bernh Kolseth b. 1859 married Anna Arnesen.

Kolseth seems to be an unusual name and I don't see it listed in other census records.

Any help would be great thanks!

David

Hi,
I belive the name is Kjølseth, and that the name comes from the Kjølseth farm in Odalen, Hedmark.

Here is their marriage record from June 25th, 1865.

Census-1865

Torvald Bergersen
Birth: 29 APR 1831
Christening: 10 JUL 1831, Sør Odal, Hedmark.
Parents: Berger Engebretsen Kjølseth & Anne Theresia Torkildsen Berg.

This could be Torvald Kjølseth's widowed mother in census-1865.

Emil Thorkildsen Kjølseth
Parents: Thorkild Bergersen Kjølsæt & Gurine Sjønnesdr.
Thorkild Bergersen Kjølsæt is Torvalds older brother, so Emil would be Torvalds nephew:

TORKILD ENGEBRET BERGERSEN
Birth: 18 FEB 1826
Christening: 20 JUL 1826, Sor Odal, Hedmark
Parents: BERGER ENGEBRETSEN & ANNE BERGH
