Fimreite, Øllmemb parish, is mentioned in the oldest census for Norway "Koppskatten" from 1645, Kopp comes from the German Kopf (Head).
The authorities demanded equal "skatt" tax for every "head" person in Norway older than 15 years.

Because of that, income for the king, the wifes and daughters are mentioned, but not by name, a wife was mentioned as "Qvinde" Woman.

There were three Fimreite farms in 1645, owners and families were:

- Peder Fimreite, wife, 1 son, 1 daughter, 1 servant boy, 2 servant girls.
- Hans Fimreite, wife, 1 servant boy, 1 servant girl
- Torchild Fimreite and wife.

If any of these were your ancestors I do not know.
Elling Nielsen had a brother Peder.

I just read this feed, I see that it's 2010, but I was hoping you guys would still be following this family. I am working on my husbands Family Tree.
Johannas Nordness was born in 1865 on the Fimerite Farm, met Kristi that lived on the Nornes farm, he moved their when they married. So I'm guessing she would be Kristi Fimerite. They had 7 children, my husbands Grandfather - Jorgan Nordness. My father in law said, he could have been named Ølmeim. He and his brother Nels moved to Canada, then North Dakota, US, 1911.
So after seeing this feed I see all the names that looks like they should go together, but I have no idea where to start in organizing the tree. Any help will be most appreciated.
Thanking you in advance.

This old thread does remind that the location to look for records in Norway is Sogndal district in Sogn og Fjordane.

The man you've called "Jorgan Nordness" is listed when leaving Norway through the port of Bergen on or about 10 March 1910 -
http://gda.arkivverket.no/cgi-win/WebCens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=23&filnamn=0224EMIG&gardpostnr=1666&sokefelt=skjul

He was "Jørgen Johannessen" from "Ylmheim", 21 yrs old so born about 1889 in Sogndal, a farm worker headed for the area around "Taapi Minn."

Jørgen with his parents and siblings were living on the "Ølmeim, Jovold" farm for the 1900 Norwegian census -

The FIRST thing you need to understand properly is traditional Norwegian naming. Online study material to learn about Norwegian naming practices and patterns:
