I have hit a wall locating the immigration of my great grandmother and her son from Telemark. Some information:
Ggrandmother
Anne Cathrine (“Trine”) Olesdatter (records with Hulversen and Olesen in US)
b 28 Dec 1852 in Brevik Telemark (there is something written at the far right column that may indicate she was born in Bamble? sorry, cannot read much of it; parents were from Bamble)
c 24 Jul 1853 Telemark
http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:NBN:no-a1450-kb20051011060731.jpg
fa: Ole Petter Johnsen (Hugger)
mo: Karen Jorgine Isaksdatter
m (1) 5 Jun 1876 in Brevik to Arbeidsmand Anders Halvorsen
http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:NBN:no-a1450-kb20061108310644.jpg

Husband (1)
Anders Halvorsen was born 18 Jul 1852 in Kaasa, Bø, Telemark. Son of Halvor Pedersen and Margith Hansdatter http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:NBN:no-a1450-kb20051011050494.jpg

Son from this marriage
Isak Andreas Halvorsen (father listed as sømand at christening) [NB: In US, son is known as Isaac or Ike Andrew Hansen -- he adopted surname of Trine’s second husband]
b 29 Jan 1877 in Brevik, Telemark
c 18 Mar 1877 in Brevik, Telemark
http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:NBN:no-a1450-kb20061108310543.jpg

On 3 Nov 1883, she married (2) Jens Peder Hansen in the Town of Hutchins, Shawano County, Wisconsin (Shawano County Record of Deeds, Marriages for 1883). She was married as “Anna C. Hulversen”.

Family story says Anders Halvorsen died by drowning in Norway (but I have not found death registered), and her brother sent her and Isak money to come to Wisconsin. However, I have not found the dates. I have searched different name combinations for the period for 1877-1884 and turned up nothing in logical choices of Telemark or Oslo records.

Many thanks to anyone who can lead me to:
1. Death date for first husband Anders Halvorsen: which will have a strong bearing on arrival of Trine and Isak, either together or separately

2. Departure for Anne Cathrine Olesdatter / Olesen / Halvorsen and for Isak Andreas Halvorsen / Andersen (I have searched the above combinations).

Thank you!

- it states that she was baptized at home by schoolteacher Claus Nielsen in Bamble.

Hi

This must be Anne Cathrine and Isak leaving Norway June 8, 1883 and going to Chicago with the ship Rollo:

Thank you very, very much! This is interesting information in more ways than one. The fact that her son left as Isak Ols. instead of Halvorsen is an interesting point. It also shows her marital status as widowed, so hopefully I can still find a death registry for Anders.

I have a death from Porsgrunn documents for 1880 for a sailor named Anders Halvorsen who died on April 30 1880. Entry 14 on this page www.arkivverket.no/URN:NBN:no-a1450-kb20060612030549.jpg

The reason I have not given this serious consideration before is that the birthdate is very different from the one I have for Anders -- this record shows that he was born in 1859, and the marriage records I have state he was born in 1852 as well as his birth records. Is it possible that the records could be off that much? Who officially reports a death -- would it have been the ship's captain or his wife? The time period would appear to be correct, i.e. after the birth of his son Isak in 1877, and before Isak and Anne Cathrine left for the US. The record states he went overboard which fits with his profession at the time of the birth of Isak in 1877. Is there anyway to confirm or eliminate this by other means? So far this is the only record I have turned up.

Thank you for any opinions or guidance!

Hi

This Anders Halvorsen was confirmated in Porsgrunn 1874 with parents: Halvor Elefsen and Karen Andersen. No 15:

He is not "your" Anders.

I actually saw 2 Anders Halvorsen's that had gone down with a boat, but both dates were about 10 years off.
