Hi, this would be the location of your farm. The Stave Church is next to Hopperstad.

The book "Nordmændene i Amerika" (The Norwegians in America, published vol I 1907, vol II 1913) by Martin Ulvestad, states that Ole Nelson Dahle from Arnefjord, Sogn (imm 1850), was a farmer in Capron, Illinois. Capron is in Boone Co.
It also says that "His son G.D. Nelson has a furniture & hardware store in Stoughton (Dane Co.), Wis since 1906."

From the same book:
A number of Norwegian families, some from Vik parish in Sogn, and some from Seljord in Telemark, came to Long Prairie by Belvidere in 1848. There are not many Norwegians left on that place now, but in Carpron there is a norwegian settlement, established in 1850. Ole Nielsen Dahle † from Vik in Sogn was one of the first.

Belvidere is a city in Boone County, Illinois. See also this article in Rockford Register Star about early Norwegian settlement in Boone County.

I also found that their daughter Ingeborg Nilsdtr. Dale (aka "Isabella Iverson") born Dec. 1836 married Ole Iverson in Illinois. They can be found in Lanesboro, Fillmore, MN in 1880, where they built the Merchants Hotel.

So who is "G.D. Nelson" in Stoughton, Dane Wis?

Census 1910 shows a Gust D Nelson in Stoughton, born 1877 in Illinois. Wife Nellie M Nelson, born 1876.

Census 1900 shows Gust Nelson in Capron & Poplar Grove (pt.) villages, Boone, Illinois.
Gust is born Sep 1875 in Illinois. Parents are Ole & Julia Nelson
Ole born Jun 1830, imm 1850, married 1860. (=son of Nils Olsen Dahle & Guri Olsdatter Helden)
Julia born Apr 1838, imm 1844, married 1860.

In addition to Gust, they also have a son Ole born Oct 1872 and a son Ingvald born Feb 1881.
Nels Nelson born Apr 1861 lives in the next household, and looks also to be a son of Ole & Julia (ref census-1880). He is married to Emma born Mar 1874.

Thus; G.D. Nelson in Stoughton was the son of Ole Nelson b.1830 in Vik, Sogn, and the grandson of the pioneer Nils Olsen Dahle b. 1804 who came to Capron, Ill in 1850.

Here they are in Capron, Ill in census-1880
Nils Olsen Dahle = Retired Farmer & widower Nelse Olson (76)

In the 1880 US Census Nels is a widower as Julia (Guri) has died. I also assume the Agusta age 5 is probably the Gust referred to by Jan Peter.

Yes, Agusta would be the son Gust whom later can be found in Stoughton, Wis. The census are also referred to above.

Census 1930 for Boone, Illinois shows one Ole Nelson, b 1873 and wife Eva M Nelson, b 1884. Children:
William Nelson, b 1911
Mildred Nelson, b 1916

Could Ole be born in October 1872, and be the son of Ole & Julia Nelson? Here's a list from Capron Cemetery, Boone Co, Ill.

Nelson Ole 1872-1952
Nelson Eva 1884-1954 w/o Ole
Nelson William H 1911-1978 s/o Ole & Eva
Nelson Gustav D 1876-1949

From the Capron Cemetery list:

Edith M (Nelson) Morris, b 1907 - d. 1958. Daughter of Ole & Eva. She must have married one Mr. Morris...

This is Rich again.

We definitely have the right family. Ole and Eva are my grandparents. William is my uncle. I spent quite a little time with him. This is really helping me fill in the blocks.

I still would like to track the ancestory in Norway after Niles and Guri left.

Thank you agin for all you help.
