I'm searching for my grandfathers uncles.

Ivar Knudsen b.10 Apr. 1862

John Knudsen b. 26 Sept 1868

They were born on Mulin Hosanger Hordaland

They moved to sjøhus Skånevik in 1872

The last I find them is John and Ivar

Also possibility of sister Ingebor b. 25 Feb 1857 moving to America.

The Dakotas have been mentioned nothing more.

Any ideas would help. thanks Jim

Could this be a possibility? Birthdate is slightly off (Oct vs Sep)

Census-1900:
Name: John Knutson
Residence: Avon, Grace & Pleasant View Townships, Grand Forks, North Dakota
Birth Date: Oct 1868
Birthplace: Norway
Gender: Male
Marital Status: Single
Immigration Year: 1888
Head-of-household: Sophia Hoveland

Jim,

You mentioned you were only searching for two uncles. There is a family listed in the 1865 census, which matches some of your requirements.
Knut & Aasa

I found a John Knutson, and his wife Bertha, and a son Kermit Alvin, in the 1930 census for Benson County North Dakota.

Are they your relatives?

Yes that is my family in 1865. Britha was My great grandmother.
The entire family moved to Sjøhus in 1872. Knut and Aasa lived
and died on Sjøhus . Britha raised her family there, but the Knutsens left and the only thing I find on them is Ivar and John
emigrating to America John and Ivar
I only recently heard of the Knutsens in America through a cousin.
If John in 1930 census is My family, i don't know.
Jim

Hi,

The family in 1930 at Minnewaukan, Benson County, North Dakota is not connected to your persons of interest. John was from Hol in Hallingdal, Bertha (Birgit) was from Aal in Hallingdal. Bertha was a good friend of my great grandmother.

Hilsen,
Jackie M.

Thanks for the info on the cousins in South Dakota.
I found them in Lake county S. Dakota. I also found a John S. Knutson
b. 1868 In Lake County Cemetery list.
Jackie
Thanks for ruling out John in N. Dakota. It makes John in Lake
county look like a better candidate.

Thanks again Jim

I haven't been able to find a John S Knutson in Lake County, SD.

There is a John S Knudson and family in the 1910 census for Henden County, Miner Township, SD.
John S. Knudson age 42, married 15 years, immigrated 1884 from Norway.
Wife: Eldora A., age 32, had 6 children, 4 living, born in Wisconsin.
Children: Amanda L. age 12.
Christina J. age 8,
Albur C, age 4,
George age 1.

1920 Census for the same County and Township lists John and his family again, with two additional children.
John, age 51, immigrated 1884, Naturalized 1893.
Dorah, age 42
Christine, age 18 (05/12/1901 From SD birth records.)
Albert, age 13 (02/02/1906 From SD birth records.)
George, age 11 (05/12/1908 From SD birth records.)
Richard, age 8
Ella, age 3

Christine's birth record gives the parents names as: John Knutson and Dora Mathison

Albert's birth record gives the parents name as John Knutsen and Dorah Madison.

George's birth record gives the parents name as John Knutson and Dora Matheson.

John, Dorah, and their youngest daughter Ella are in the 1930 census, for the same county, and township. The immigraion for John is again given as 1884.

For the1930 census, there is a George Knutson age 21, living with his grandfather Grandmother Lawrence Lorence Mathison age 80, widowed, immigrated 1873 from Norway, naturalized. This census is for Canton Twp, Lincoln County, SD.

The above Lawrence Lorence Mathison could be Dorah's father. mother
Jim, are these people related to you?

Les

PS. There is a Mike Mathiesen age 69, and his wife Lorence age 70, in the 1920 census for Canton County, Lincoln township. SD. Mike's immigration is 1876, and Lorence's is 1874 with a correction given as (1878).

Johns immigration year was 1888, see #7 and 479.

Ivar immigrated in 1882, see 249.

quote:
They moved to sjøhus Skånevik in 1872
Recorded moving out from hosanger, see #7-13 and moving in at Skånevik, see #5-11
note also that the recording in Skånevik was in 1872, but "Opgiven Datum" = Given Date is 1870.

I believe the Mike Mathiesen, age 69, in the 1920 census for Canton County, Lincoln township, is Mikal Mathisen from Vefsen.

Lorence could be Lorentse Olsen from Målselv.
