Also searching the wife of my grandfather, Gudrun Sæthre, who married my grandfather Henrik Johansen Melgaard in Vancouver and died there 30 June 1960. She was born in Norway 31 Oct 1887, but I cannot find where or any other trace of her or her family.

This should be her in census-1900

Gudrun Alvine Melgaard was home in Norway in 1910. "Emigranter fra Trondheim" shows that she is from Brønnø.

Gudrun Melgaarde (22)
Ship: EMPRESS OF BRITAIN
Shipping Line: Canadian Pacific Railway Co.
Departure: Liverpool, England - 1910-07-15
Arrival: Quebec, Que. - 1910-07-21

Conf record #15 states that she is born on the date you had, 31-Oct-1887.
Parents are Annanias & Gurine Sætre.

Thank you very much - that set me in the right direction again. Do you have the passenger list for the ship going to Canada?

Gudrun was either pregnant or travelling with her child Oscar. Was just curious to see whether she had her child with her and if she was accompanied by someone. Is that possible without too much time spent? Dag

One "Aurgar Melgnarde" (1) is listed on the same ship.
"Emigranter fra Trondheim" shows that the boy's name is Ansgar Gunnar Melgaard (1), and he is travelling with his mother Gudrun Melgaard. Their destination is father/husband in Vancouver, B. C.
Ansgar Gunnar is born 20-Apr-1909 in Brønnø, Nordland.

Thank you - that solved much. I have been looking for Oscar in all archives at no success. No wonder when the child was called Ansgar. And this is the right boy - in Canada he was called Oscar Gunward.
